    What's so great about membranes?

Well, here's where it gets confusing. Everybody says this, but nobody really defines "low frequency" in that context. How low are we talking here? Below 300 Hz? Below 100 Hz? If a trap does really well down to 100 Hz but takes a nosedive after that, how does it compare to a trap that is not...

    What's so great about membranes?

I'm specifically referring to something like the RealTraps or GIK acoustic panels, where there is a limp mass membrane made of plastic or somesuch in front of rigid fiberglass or mineral wool, possibly with an air gap between. Doesn't the foil on the OC 705-FRK do this? I've heard this is the...

    What's so great about membranes?

That doesn't make sense... if the point of a membrane absorber is to target bass frequencies, isn't the corner the optimal place to mount them? Why would you put it anywhere else?

    What's so great about membranes?

Can someone explain to me what makes a membrane absorber better or worse than a 4" slab of OC 705-FRK? Assume that both are straddled across a corner. What difference should I expect?

    Omnirax - worth the money?

The Omnirax Force 24 is an awesome looking desk, but the cheapest I've found it for is $1200. That's an awful lot for a desk. I don't have any rackmount equipment, so I don't need built-in racks. I could probably get a cheap desk and some monitor stands for a fraction of the price. But I...

    The trouble with my studio

Okay, so it's settled that I'll put a trap in each of the front corners, and a portable trap to set in the corner with the door. You said to put the last trap in the left bottom corner... did you mean the right bottom corner? That would seem to make more sense to me, but there could be a...

    carpeting vs acoustical foam??

What, did you glue them to the back and push them in that way?

    carpeting vs acoustical foam??

    How'd you mount them?

    The trouble with my studio

I'm getting ready to pick up some bass traps, and I'm trying to decide exactly how many to get. The trouble is, my studio is a little irregularly shaped (see the attached image, below). The blue section is a door, the yellow denotes the window. As you can see there's a closet in the bottom...

    carpeting vs acoustical foam??

Actually, these bags look to make it simple. Just add your own 2" slabs of 703... maybe I'll go this route. On the other hand, foam can be cut to smaller pieces, and is likely more sturdy.

    carpeting vs acoustical foam??

I don't have a lot of time to build my own stuff, so I'm more interested in buying pre-made acoustic treatments. I'll stick with the Mini and Mondo Traps for now, and for the reflection points I'll go with either 4" Auralex or make my own panels out of 703 if it's not too hard.

    carpeting vs acoustical foam??

Awesome graph, thanks! Looks like there's really no substitute for the Mondo/Mini Traps. But the auralex foam could be a very suitable replacement for the MicroTraps. Maybe I should go with the Mondo/Mini Traps for bass absorption and some Auralex foam for reflections?

    carpeting vs acoustical foam??

How good is Auralex foam, then? Does a good Auralex foam panel (say, the pyramid foam) compare to the rigid fiberglass panels from RealTraps? I'm curious because a MicroTrap from RealTraps costs about twice what a 2x4 pyramid foam panel (4" thick) from Auralex costs...

    carpeting vs acoustical foam??

Does that go for all other foam as well, such as Auralex?
