    Faux live drum sound tricks/tips

Thanks for checking them out. As stated it's still a work in progress. When I said I dont like to compress drums too much I was talking about the individual tracks. Their is no compressions going on other than the bus. The reason their smashed so much with the guitar mix is how the musician...

    Audio Myth Buster Thread

I just found out that tubes do not add warmth to your sound. In all my years both playing music and doing HR I had never heard this before and I feel like I have just saved myself a nice little bundle of cash as I was saving for some tube comps and a mic. Just coz they had tubes thinking they...

    Tubes = Warmth. Not!

This may be old news but not to me it ain't. I'll admit I was one of those that believed the myth and I'm so glad I found that video as I am currently saving for 2 art vla 2's and an Avantone CV-12 just coz they got tubes. thinking they would help fatten/warm up the sound.

    Faux live drum sound tricks/tips

Thats a great point that I never condsidered about the room. Wow that is something to really think about. The reason for the buss set up is I dont like to over/compress the individual tracks. All the drums would go to bus1 with varying levels and just the tiniest smidge of compression on the...

    Faux live drum sound tricks/tips

I dont always use the room or bathroom mic. When I do use a room mic I like it up in the corner of the room facing into the corner or on the floor. To answer why, I cant say I know for sure. Just that when I get the position right it adds something nice to the sound but as you would expect it...

    Faux live drum sound tricks/tips

I forgot about the bus tracks , yeah depending I might have up to four busses set up for drums as I dont like to comp my indivuidal tracks not too much anyway. Then give them a good lash of comp in the busses if need be. Bus1 for all drums, Bus2 for kick, Bus3 for snare, Bus4 for drum...

    Best way to record drums?

If he's looking for best it would be to tape. But any interface with 4+ decent preamps, AD/DA converter. Nice mics and nice sounding room and the drums tune as perfectly as you can. Nothing has to be very expensive just decent. Run long mic cables if you have to or join two or three together...

    Faux live drum sound tricks/tips

Ok so some are probably cringing at the thread title. I know the answer here is go to a great sounding live room but lets not forget this is home recording and we work with what we got. Anyway heres the thing. My drums are set up in my living room where I mix. Its not a very big room with...

    Interface with USB+Firewire+ADAT

I'm on the look out for an interface that has both Firewire/USB and ADAT sub €1000e. 2/4 preamps would be ideal. Any recommendations would be great as I can't find any yet. Tks

    Another active studio monitor recommendation?

I've spent the last couple hours trawling the net and reading manual. I really wish I could get a change to hear different monitors in person but its just not possible so with the help of mother brain web machine I've decided to stretch my budget, I know what I want.

    Another active studio monitor recommendation?

I've had my Tscam Vl-X5 since 2008. I track and record in the same room. Today I put some laminated flooring under the drums. I like the difference. Snare sounds alot nicer. When I was playing around the kit I noticed the 14" floor tom makes both monitors rattle and buzz really bad. That tom is...
