Shure Small diaphragm condenser PG81 to record snare!?

Thanks for the input guys:) I could try lowering the gain (since this mic doesn't have pad or rolloff) and see how it works.

Shure Small diaphragm condenser PG81 to record snare!?

I think so. I tracked a straight forward rock drum track, using 5A nylon tipped sticks, and I'm a rimshot lover, so yeah, it was very loud. Maybe I can use this mic to track sidesticking patterns. As overheads they don't do a bad job.

Shure Small diaphragm condenser PG81 to record snare!?

Well, this one doesn't have a pad. Maybe it can be done with greater quality SDCs, like a SM81. For my test purposes, it clearly showed, a PG81 is not suitable for batter head snare mic'ing. I slapped my SM57 back on and got the great results as usual:D

Nope, I just used the PG81 on top.

Shure Small diaphragm condenser PG81 to record snare!?

NOT a good idea. Recorded a test yesterday, and it sounded HORRIBLE. PG81 for snare, definately NO.

Shure Small diaphragm condenser PG81 to record snare!?

I guess I should give it a try, and find out for myself if they work for top snare mic'ing:rolleyes:

Shure Small diaphragm condenser PG81 to record snare!?

I was thinking, since the frequency range is broader than the SM57, "maybe" it could capture a crispier sound.

Shure Small diaphragm condenser PG81 to record snare!?

As the title says, has anyone used a PG81 to record a snare? No matter what brand of mic, has anybody ever used a SDC to record snare? All opinions are appreciated. Cheers!

    Nico style, Cheap Tremolo Stopper!

Should I say cheap and fully adjustable? ;):D:D Yeah, I read wood blocks were the easier way to go, but I wanted something to keep my bridge locked when playing:cool:

    Nico style, Cheap Tremolo Stopper!

Tools needed to adjust the stopper screw: An 8mm wrench An angled philips screwdriver I'm really happy with the results; I can bombdive and I know my bridge is going to always land where I want it...even better, I can make it a floating bridge again with the turn of some bolts:D Cheers!

Then I just had to set the boltscrew in place (I don't know if this is the correct way to describe it, but I guess you get the idea:D)

    Nico style, Cheap Tremolo Stopper!

After buying a new (to me, used) Ibanez RG5EX1, I decided to set it up myself for the first time. Previously I owned a Jackson PS4, and had it "professionally" setup. One thing I noticed during setup that was particularly anoying, is how the bridge fluctuates while tuning and intonating...
