Upgrading inexpensive guitar before selling - return worth investment?

I agree with jimmystone, if it can't be played then you will get practically nothing at ll. I picked up a G400 several years ago and it is one of my go to axes these days-I like it more than a Norlin era Gibson I had that never stayed in tune! And as jimmy states--I suggest the bare minimum to...

Strange / unique guitars you own...

I found this Ibanez a few years ago dirt cheap on the local Craigs list. I thought it was a bolt on neck with some really cheap body wood, but its a set neck with a mahogney body with a maple cap and mahogney neck-very similar to a Les Paul. The pickups are big and loud-it really surprised...

Pressing the G String too hard on my Les Paul

Hey IDO, have you tried using some graphite in the nut slots-it seems like the slot is binding and going sharp. I have used a solution of shaved pencil lead and petroleum jelly whenever I change strings and it works well to keep the strings in line. Hope this will work for you.... Tony

What nut lubricant do you use?

I use graphite from a pencil and sand the lead in a solution of the graphite and petrolium jelly. I use an old carmex container to keep the mess to a minimum. Use a toothpick to lube the nut slots and it works wonders. And several wraps on the tuners seems to work much better than multiple...

    New project-Iceman copy

Thanks for the nice comments, JCH. I would build another one, maybe the Explorer or the PRS style guitars. The Basswood bodies will ding as its a softer hardwood-I've built 2 of the Saga Tele kits beside the Iceman and I have to be careful. For the Iceman I used engine enamel though and it...

    New project-Iceman copy

The paint booth at the College was great-it had a filter and exhaust to get the job done quickly. I also had problems with the heat and humidity when I transported the guitar, when I arrived home the paint had pealed off in a few spots and I had to do some paint repair. It was definitely a...

Now that was only my opinion, Dave. I have 2 of my Tele builds with clear coat necks earlier in the thread.

The kit I built is from Bargain Musician.com-they have an assortment of these kits available and I got free shipping. Bargain Musician - DIY Unfinished Project Luthier Electric Guitar Kits Thanks for the information, Farview-I hope the Summer heat cools down a bit for the long weekend S. IL. is...

    New project-Iceman copy

I can't say for sure, Jay-I've never had a chance to play an Iceman till I built this kit. In another forum some people thought the body was smaller but someone with an older Iceman said the size looked like the one he has. But I'm looking at the Strat and Iceman here in the room and they are...

    New project-Iceman copy

Looks can be deceiving, allright! I had a few dings in the body as I transported the kit-luckily I was able to steam the dents out. I believe its an old carpenter's trick but it worked great for me. I was trying to get a T. V. yellow color that Gibson used on the early Les Paul Specials. I...

I built a Tele kit a few years back-it had a clear coat neck. Here is a shot of it.

    New project-Iceman copy

Thanks Gerg, the neck on this guitar was a nice surprise-its fat and beefy like the 50's Les Paul and it has block inlays instead of the dots. Thanks for checking it out, cakewalkKaKed. Painting the body and neck the same color makes it much cooler than a clear coat neck. I've also discovered...

    Pickup selector positoining

When I got my first Tele I was constantly hitting the switch when I was playing rhythm. I thought I would destroy the switch, but after about a week my brain apparently rewired itself and I never had any problems since then. I use the middle switch position on the Tele and Gibson style guitars...

    Any ebow users?

Hey Bob, I bought an EBow used years ago but I haven't used it very much. The older model that I have would only sustain one string at a time-newer models will sustain two string and give harmonized feedback, and its a world of differerence!

    New project-Iceman copy

New project-Iceman copy I've always thought the Iceman was one of the coolest guitars, and this summer I decided to get a kit and go for it. Having several guitars that were black, red, or white I went with a Daytona yellow color from the local NAPA store. Here is the body and neck, it was bare...
