I've seen one of these for sale around town and I'm wondering what folks here think of 'em... basically a ribbon mic design but supposedly more rugged than most ribbons and doesn't require phantom power. Anybody use one?
I am thinking about getting a matched pair of SDC mic's, just for recording my acoustic guitar in stereo for my personal project studio. I use sampled drums (BFD) so I wouldn't need to mic up drums, that's not a consideration.

These seem to be a great mid-priced condenser based on the reviews, etc. I've read and I'm intrigued by the thought of some classic character at this price point. In this general price range, there are some solid contenders (AT-4050, KSM-44, Rode NT-2A) but they seem, I don't know... somewhat...
Does anybody have a link or information regarding the modification to these mics that was popular a few years ago? I picked up a pair cheap at GC when the got discontinued last year and I'd like to turn them into something *happening*.
