i would think computer based makes alot of sense if you already have a decent system to start...this takes care of relatively cheap and expandible a mixer is a must if you are thinking of recording live drums...most around here would most likely give the nod to a mackie...this also gives you...

twiddling around with what i have is probably a great idea... it seems that some of the problem was simply me overloading the signal in the c1... i had the mic set on m1 (on the q10 mixer) and i think that was too hot...i'm getting better results with the "line" setting with the trim at...

thanks phyl... i have heard nothing but raves on the rnc...i'll start checking out compressors.... do you use your outboard gear for real time effects to throw in the monitor mix while tracking? would a mic pre with eq help to get a better mic sound as well?

thanks for your responses... the main problem seems to be the vocal track...i am running my sp c1 directly to the pre's on the q10 (i have no outboard gear at this point) i can't seem to get a decent vocal...either too quiet or it clips...i've been unable to get a good full vocal sound to...

look in the lower right hand corner and you will see an icon that says quote...click and you will get the full quote in your next post...

is anyone using the q10 without an external mixer? how do you alter something other than gain if not using an external mixer...if i want to brighten up an acoustic or fatten up a vocal (throw on a little reverb) for monitoring what do i do? i am using pa9 which came with the aardvark. i know...

I have a Dell Dimension with a Pentium 3 and 733MHz processor About 512 Ram Yes I have the Q10...I just installed the card two days agao and I haven't gotten any farther than arming a track and getting a signal from my acoustic at this point...wasn't sure about drum tracks yet...

thanks everyone for the feedback... i'm using an aardvark and the card/box comes with a copy of pa9, so i think i'll attempt that first before diving into anything else...i am brand new to all of this so i'll have my hands full with just about any program i'm sure.... getting a new operating...

i am looking for some good basic recording software to use with my current pc...running windows 98.... any thoughts on home studio 2002?...has anyone here used it? other software requires a newer version of windows which is not really a possibility right now...

you may also want to check out the oktava mc012's....used for the same type of applications (i think) and alot of folks around here seem to like 'em...do a search on both of these mics and you'll find LOTS of info...

re: how do you think the mc012's compare to the at4033? after reading NUMEROUS posts and a/b "ing" mics at 8th street, these are the mics i've narrowed it down to....i would buy the m1/m3 head either right away or in the near future...or would it be better to buy the head and only one mc012...

earthworm, if you get a chance, let us know how they sound as drum overheads in a three (or four) mic setup... i'd be very interested to see if they pick up the kit well enough and with enough "punch".....someone told me that since they were hypercardioids they may not be the best for...
