Help me decide... two guitars but $$ for one

I prefer rosewood fingerboards, but I do not like sunburst, so I'm torn. My dislike of sunburst is more severe than my preference for rosewood, so I'd probably go with choice one.

Best guitar for around $30,000 to $75,000.

Blindfolded or not, the only sound you'll ever hear in guitar center is the sound of dozens of high school kids trying to play metal riffs.

    freaking rondo music...

I also have an SX jazz bass. It's a pretty good bass. No problem w/ the frets. >>>ALL<<< low priced gear is going to suffer from lack of consistency in the quality control department, so one SX might have problems and another might be fantastic.

    JR drum set?

$250 MIGHT get you some decent used drums, but unless you find the deal of the century you're going to have to shell out some real money if you want decent cymbals.

    first drum set?

Don't give up so easily. It'll be easier and probably cheaper to find a used full kit than it'll be to find just a bass/snare/hi-hat. Buying drums piece by piece gets very expensive, and who sells bass drums, anyway? If you really only want a bass/snare/hi-hat you can always take the extra...

    Inexpensive yet quality drum cases?

padded bags work perfectly well for me. if you don't puncture them they will last a long time. i've had mine for close to 15 years. i tore the bass drum bag because i forgot to remove a pointy bass drum anchor. if it hadn't been for my carelessness the bag would still be perfect. if someone...

Acoustic guitar - better left in case or on stand?

my acoustic is on a stand. i recently discovered a dent in the side of it. cat's must have knocked it over at some point.

what do you guys think of the Martin backpacker guitar?

they're made for travel. do you really want to carry a full sized acoustic guitar with you on an airplane/taxi/subway/cruise ship/train/bus? whether you like the sound or not, it's a good idea that allows people to bring a guitar with them when they are on a trip. i personally think the...

What is the most "rigged" thing you've ever done.

My most successful rig job involved a screwdriver, a multi-clamp and a hi-hat mounted (bonham style) tambourine. I didn't want the tambourine to be mounted on the hi-hat pull rod as it gets in the way, but I did want the same effect that you get when mounting a tambourine on a hi-hat. My...

    2nd drum kit

sorry, i don't have the ability to do that at this time. i haven't read the article yet, but if you have a brand, or brands, in mind i'll be happy to check out what the magazine says about them and get back to you. i'm not sure how it works in other countries, but the dates on modern...

    yea!!!!!!!!! new hi-hats!

you can take that to the bank. unless your studio is a room full of cymbals with a glass dorr and windows your recording will not sound like what you hear in the GC cymbal room.

    yea!!!!!!!!! new hi-hats!

cool. i'm going to get some new hi-hats pretty soon. mine sound ok (they're a mismatched set of zildjians), but they are too loud.

    Drum issues!!!

go to a place that gives drum lessons and ask who wants to record some metal tracks using their own drums. you won't have to buy anything.

    hand-hammered turkish cymbals

Bosphorous makes great cymbals. They aren't widely used compared to Zildjian/Sabian/Paiste. I'd compare their business to something like Noble and Cooley drums, or other so-called "boutique" companies that are pretty common in the world of music equipment. Amazing stuff, made in small...

    2nd drum kit

the new modern drummer magazine (jan. 2006 issue...i just got it in the mail yesterday, so it might be a little while before it is available in AU) has a shootout of kits in that price range.
