Hi. I'm thinking of creating post-rock / ambient, and wonder what equipment to buy.
I have up to about $1200 to spend.
I have a Mexican Fender Telecaster with Tonerider hot classics pickups, a Novation Impulse
midi keyboard, a good orchestral strings sample library, a noisy solid state amp...
Hi. I'm going to buy a new smartphone next week probably. I have a habit of recording
little ideas on the phone. For more serious recording I use my laptop and a pair of Gefell mics.
Ideas that I want to keep working on, I re-record on my laptop - so I don't need very high quality
recordings...
Hello.
I have a pair of Gefell UM70's, NOT stereo matched.
One is NOT working properly - when recording the signal comes and goes.
I need to test the other for a possible noise issue.
The Gefell company repairs these mics today, i think. I've enquired about
the cost of service, but haven't...
Hello.
I am using an ooooold laptop with an echo indigo soundcard.
I am considering to buy either a focusrite forte soundcard or a
universal audio 710 twin finity preamp and keep my echo card.
What would give me the best sound quality? I will be recording
mostly acoustic guitar, voice and...
Hello.
I might be getting a new laptop and a new sound card within some months.
I have been using a pcmcia card (echo indigo) and an m-audio dmp3 mic preamp
and two condenser mics. Not having used a usb-sound card before, and reading
some forum posts about trouble applying phantom power from...
Hello,
I'm starting up a non-profit label, and will be doing a lot of the tracking
at home. The first three projects are of acoustic and classical chamber
music. My recording chain isn't very strong; echo indigo, dmp3, but i have
some nice gefell mics. I was thinking of buying a DAV bg1 pre...
Hi.
I just uploaded 10 songs on myspace (free download)
http://www.myspace.com/everyanimalsmilesback
The songs are basically from three different projects.
1) Indie folk-pop solo project.
Somewhat reminiscent of Sparklehorse, Iron & Wine, and the Microphones.
2) the lesser light...
My sister is looking for some neat vocal effects to use live,
preferably also multi-part harmonies. Digitech vocalist live 4
was suggested. Are there any other decent options?
Would any software compatible with mac work nicely?
Have a wonderful evening.
It would be very neat to have the opportunity to sing into a microphone
into a synth or software, and having your voice processed to come out live as a violin,
trumpet or other instruments. Preferably based on good samples,
and if glissandi, not just plain pitches (vocoded) worked it would be...
I'd love to find a synth with string sounds better than what composition
software like finale and sibelius offer. What should I look for?
Advice is greatly appreciated.
Have a lovely day.
A friend of mine has a Korg D1200 mk2 recorder, but no mics or preamps save for the internal ones (which do provide phantom power).
He is looking to make recordings of solo piano and chamber music. I suggested maybe getting one nice LDC or SDC for now,
and buying another of the same brand...
How would this computer setup compare to a korg d1200?
I'm thinking only about the sound quality.
I'm used to 24bit/44.1 with nuendo.
The korg offers the same. Korg specs
And a little noob question: the preamps on the korg are bypassable, right?
Have a nice time.
I am looking for a 6-8 channel mixer.
One candidate i've found is Revox c279,
and i was also curious about the Soundcraft
delta sr8. I haven't found any reviews of the
delta, and wondered if anyone here had tried it.
Have a nice week.
A friend of mine is into gaming, and is looking for a card that's
good for music listening and gaming as well. It's for a desktop pc.
He needs no mic inputs, though he felt an input feature of some new
creative card providing vinyl recording with noise reduction, was a
good idea. But most...
I reckon sx2 will work, but I wondered if se2 or sl2 would be
compatible as well.
There are few effects used in the songs recorded in nuendo 2,
so that will not be an issue.
Have a nice weekend.
I found an ad for an Ampex Nagra VPR-5.
It uses 1" video tape, but has 4 record switches for audio tracks.
Is this usable as a good 4-track?

If i'm not mistaken the akai has pan controls, so that an external mixer
wouldn't be necessary. And the "exclusive low noise crystal ferrite super GX
multi-track heads" sound magic. Tape speed and track tape width is the same.
Spare parts might be an issue with the akai.
Which would you choose...
