No, really, this is our smash hit... "FAULT" - Need mix help

Good advice is to listen to something (a good, professional, commercial release) you know sounds really great, then immediately halfway thru the song, play this one and note the differences.

No, really, this is our smash hit... "FAULT" - Need mix help

Its not a total loss or anything. I mean, ideally, you wouldnt have to EQ it a whole lot, but its not beyond repair by someone experienced who can remix and master it for you. What program did u use to mix it?

No, really, this is our smash hit... "FAULT" - Need mix help

Advice? It needs to be EQ'd and mixed on a good set of ears and studio monitors.

No, really, this is our smash hit... "FAULT" - Need mix help

Could be a great song, but needs a lot of depth and sparkle injected into it. Right now, it sounds like its behind a curtain and lacks depth.

    OS for Studio Recording

My advise was only intended for those that have the ability to have seperate PCs in a studio. If one 'standard use' PC can be on the net, keep the recording PC off the net. Theres just no reason to have it there. Especially when that little computer is how you make your living. Anti-blahware or...

    OS for Studio Recording

Because its just less trouble in the long run. Have a home use PC for well... home use, and a seperate studio PC thats only for recording. Some people (whose business relies on the studio PC working) will tell you first hand that there is no need to have a studio recording PC on the net at all.

Windows XP Media Center Edition - OS problem

I used Media Center OEM with no issues at all for over 2 years. I think the issue will stem from the crap that comes pre-loaded on store-bought PCs, not from MCE itself.

    New mix...Class song...please critique!

Song isnt too bad... a bit sappy, but thats ok in this case. The singing itself needs a little work IMO... I think he could hit those notes with a little more power and emotion. I would actually bring up the snare and tack on some reverb to it as well... just a taste. All in all, the mix itself...

Retracking of a previously posted tune

Yea the vox are great, but guitars are muffled and need to brightened and EQ'ed to taste. Good job.

    Live Solo Acoustic/Vox recordings!

I listened to both clips. Seems like they were great performances. Mix-wise, (or recording-wise), there is a good deal of clipping which manifests itself as a static coming more from the left channel at times. On the second song, the guitar is a bit too loud. The guitar signal sounds good, but...

what ear do you listen through more when you mixing/mastering?

Yea, its a common thing. People subconsciously (sp?) prefer one ear and eye. Most people are dominant in accordance to them being left or right handed. Personally, I am dominant with my right ear, eye, and hand.

Thanks for the comments, zazz. I will forward the music-related feedback to the band, in addition to taking your comments in mind when (and if) I do another mix of the acoustic version.
