    Tascam 238 Story #2…

Thanks for the comments. I have (and had) a few cassette machines at this point, and for some reason I find the transport reliability and robustness as the thing I worry about the most. I've been shocked how much the capstan speed drifted in some machines I spent a lot of time tuning and...

    Tascam 238 Story #2…

I'm curious... the 238 is joined by the 488 and 688 as the other 8-tracks-on-cassette that Tascam made. Do you know if the transports are the same in all (3) machines? Frankly the transport in your photos of the 238 seem quite a bit more robust than what I remember seeing in the 488 and 688...

Tascam 34 - meters doing strange things

Thanks for the message and help! Yes, there were many K003 and K004 relays that were bad. From everything I have read, these nearly always go bad, similarly in several other Tascam models (38 has them, 58 has them, et al). In another message from another forum, I followed Skywave's advice and...

Tascam 34 - meters doing strange things

FYI... I reread sweetbeats's advice to reseat the rec/rep amp card to the motherboard, with the hypothesis that one of the white multi-pin connectors weren't conducting fully. That did the trick! Thank you.

Tascam 34 - meters doing strange things

Hey folks, may I chime in here with a similar question? I came across this post searching for a similar problem. I have a Tascam 48 and it is exhibiting what I think is similar behavior: channel 6 VU goes dead during repro mode monitoring off tape. The VU works fine for input monitoring, and it...

    Post Your Analog Recordings Here...

Oh you don't need to tell me. I was a shred kid in the late 80s and early 90s, but this Yngwie cover is me revisiting that stuff after basically not listening to any of it for decades. I'm all about funk and soul and groove these days. And yes, I love the Joshua Tree.

Thank you! The funny thing is, I used to play that song effortlessly as a kid, 30 years ago. Now I find it much harder. Part of the appeal to me of recording on analog is the pain process (LOL), you know, forcing myself to get it right. No edits allowed. As much as I'd like to say recording that...

Here's a guitar instrumental cover of Yngwie Malmsteen's "I am a Viking" done on the Tascam TSR-8 1/2" 8-track. All percussion was generated in the computer, then printed to tape before any tracking. All bass, guitars and keys were tracked live to tape. Mixed in the DAW. I Am A Viking

My main technique insofar as there is any, lies in preproduction. I use the DAW for that: writing parts, arranging them, working out sounds, drum beats, etc. Everything goes through a process of experimentation and editing and chopping up and so on. During this phase, there are no rules. I will...

Thank you. What do you want to know? How I record it? How I produce it? How I mix it...?
