Monitor placement in irregular room
I've got adam a5 monitors... where should they go in this room. The blue lines are windows. the 8'11" wall is a ~5 ft? high counter opening into the kitchen, so not a solid wall.
would this be a good placement for fiberglass cubicle panels?
Pandamonk, you're advice is much appreciated
Also might as well ask this here:
My purpose is not mixing, I bought studio monitors (adam a7) to listen to music, watch movies, etc. as regular speakers. (I chose powered monitors...
My room is 10x16. Two questions:
Is it a good idea to have the back of the speakers about 3 to 4 feet from the wall?
How important is symmetry in the entire room?
Meaning everything else is symmetrical (speakers around desk, futon/couch in front of speakers) except for a tv on one side.
Is...
so the fiberglass is not the new highly dense 70? type. It's the kind that was made in the 70's.
I think I'm going to get rid of them now, because I heard cubicles from that period had loads of chemicals?
I did a search already on cubicle panels. I'm aiming for acoustical treatment (not isolation i know). There's this place getting rid of cubicle panels for free, they have a whole lot of them (office building closed down).
I took a look:
layer
1: cloth
2: fiberglass
3: heavy cardboard

I have excellent feedback on head-fi (headphone audio forum) under ssingh0. You can pm me on there and I will confirm.
I bought it for recording myself vocals for practice, but i settled on stereo, and a matched pair of qtc40 was beyond my budget. Only used this about 4 times, half hour each...
thanks for all the reply's. I had left the thread for a while.
The problem was that I was applying too much gain as little dog pointed out.
I leave the gain at the lowest setting on the grace 101 (I thought that meant zero, but it's actually 10db).
Now the sound comes through...
I want a mic that is as transparent/uncolored as possible. I made a thread about it before buying it, and, as expected, some people recommended it highly (one of them runs one of the websites that puts samples of different equipment clips) and others said they wouldn't use it for vocals
Yes, I think this is what's happening, specifically because when I go louder at the short distance, the sound becomes even thinner.
So how do I prevent from over driving?
I'm recording with an earthworks qtc40, and as I get right up to the mic (2" away) the sound thins out. When I get farther back (2 - 4 feet) the sound is more natural and big. I thought the opposite is suppose to happen.
(I'm in a small bad room, 14 x 11.5 x 8, wooden floor, but I have bunch...
I have an earthworks qtc40. In the case it comes with, there's a moisture absorber thing.
If I just leave the mic on the stand in my room, rather than putting it back in the box every night, will it be affected over time, or is this ok to do?
I purchased a grace 101 from frazerhutch. I was really nervous because frazerhutch doesn't deal with paypal, ebay etc. so I was worried my check would be cashed and I would at best receive a damaged item.
Throughout the transaction frazerhutch also responded so promptly and thoroughly to...
i'm loving this mic so much. the difference between this and v67g is huge.
A lot more than I expected from that website with samples, and a guy and gal singing about you love me, i love you something.
thanks a lot for that info.
I just bought a qtc40, I tested it at the guys place to see that it's not compeletly broken. I'm sorta nervous though, the guy said he bought it new, has only used it like twice, but it took him like 15 minutes because he couldn't figure how to work it, but claims he's spent 40,000 on recording...
could someone please explain why they wouldn't use the qtc for vocals? i've never used a mic besides v67g
I'm about to go potentially buy a used one for $600.
plug it in either L or R.
What program are you using to record?
do your monitors have analog inputs? 1212m has one pair of L & R analog outs. That should be self explanatory. Get/make a cable, what kind of outs are there on your headphones? If only one 1/4" get a splitter. What kind of...
anyone have experience with this omnidirectional mic? Will use for solo vocals. I searched around, and one reviewer said it is too detailed for solo vocals... picks up licking, swallowing, etc.
I don't mind that much. I'm recording myself as I progress in my vocal training. I find that...
