    Get Young (funky rock)

Thanks for the comments. Feel free to mess around in mastering software. I'm doing the same thing myself. ;)

    Get Young (funky rock)

Thanks for the reply. I wanted a live feel. Hopefully it sounds live in a good way not a bad way. I wrote the song and Band of Gypsies is one of my favorite albums so I'm probably subconsciously ripping it off often. I wanted the guitar tone at the end to be kind of dark because the riff is...

    Get Young (funky rock)

This is a song I'm working on that will be on one of my bands upcoming album. It features a large arrangement so it has taken a decent amount of work to get everything to sit well. I'm looking for any and all mix feedback. Thanks a lot! https://soundcloud.com/patlang12/get-young-5-14-13

    Funk song needs new ears

Thanks for the replies. Do you think the lead vocals sound too distant? The female vocals are pretty wet to put them in the back a bit, but I'm trying to decide what to do with the lead vocals. Are the drums too roomy?

    Funk song needs new ears

It's an aif file so it takes a long time. I took your advice and uploaded an mp3 (at 320) on soundcloud. Here is the link: Gimme rough3 by patlang12 on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

    Funk song needs new ears

This is a song I'm working on for an album for my funk band. I'm just looking for some mix feedback. Thanks! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17282920/gimme%20rough3.aif It takes a little while to load as it is an aif file. Here is an mp3 version that loads quickly...

New song in the style of Sam Cooke needs mix feedback.

Armistice, you're right. This was my first time using soundcloud. I hoped that the quality would be better since it let me upload aif files. Here is a link to download the new mix in 320kb: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pf4h1eyw6zsidm9/Please%20Oh%20Please%207%3A3%3A12.mp3

New song in the style of Sam Cooke needs mix feedback.

http://soundcloud.com/patlang12/please-oh-please-7-3-12 Ok here is a new mix. I took out a little bit of the boom from the bass. I added high end to the horns and scooped out some of those frequencies from the backup vocals. I think it's sounding better. To my ears the horns have more punch...

New song in the style of Sam Cooke needs mix feedback.

After listening some more I'm hearing what everyone is saying about the lack of high end. I'm going to start with the horns and vocals and try to stay away from the drums at first because the high end really makes the hi hat jump out a lot. I'll post a new mix after I make the changes to get...

New song in the style of Sam Cooke needs mix feedback.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking the bass might be a little boomy. I might try to tame the boom and get a tab bit more growl out of it. Do you think there are specific instruments that should be shined up or just the entire mix? I was keeping it a little bit darker to try to get a...

New song in the style of Sam Cooke needs mix feedback.

This is my first post in the mixing clinic in a long time. I'm looking for feedback on this mix. I don't feel like it's quite where it needs to be yet, but I could use some critiques to help get it there. Tear it apart! Here is the link: Please Oh Please 7:2:12 by patlang12 on SoundCloud -...

Setting up a new studio on a budget

For the past two years I've been lucky to have a good setup for recording practicing. My room is large, has hardwood floors and is a corner house. There is some sound leakage (low end) but we don't have issues with the neighbors even when we play late. Best of all I think the room sounds real...

    Bluegrass tunes

Thanks for all the replies. Some of the mixing advice really helped and I was able to apply it to a bunch of songs on the album. If anyone is interested the entire album is streaming for free online and available for download here: Quicksand Marching Band Thanks again

    Bluegrass tunes

Thanks for the kind words. I was thinking the guitar might be a little bit too loud. I have room mics on everything so I think I'll try increasing their level on the vocals to add a little natural reverb. I really like the natural sound of the recordings so adding artificial reverb is sort of...

    Bluegrass tunes

Thanks for the reply. Are you talking about both songs or just one of them? I think the harmonica might be mixed a bit low because it is very dynamic. I probably should compress or automate it a bit and then bring it up in the mix. I'm glad you think it has a live feel as that is what I'm...

    Bluegrass tunes

Hey everybody. This is my first time posting in the mp3 clinic in a really long time. I have been working on recording and mixing a folk/bluegrass album with one of my bands. I've heard these songs a bunch in a less than perfect listening environment and I'm beginning to lose objectivity. I...

Drum replacement does not create midi region

I figured it out. It seems that the track has to been flattened for the drum replacer to work. The reason it worked on my second song is because none of the tracks had multiple takes on them. Thanks again for your help. I'm starting to get to know logic a little bit better and am starting to...

Drum replacement does not create midi region

Thanks for your reply. I messed with it more today and made some progress. I have two songs recorded in the the same logic file. I have been trying to use the drum replacer on the first song in the file and it has not been working (and is still not working). When I scrolled to the second...

Drum replacement does not create midi region

Thanks for the reply. I have tried messing around with the threshold, but I still can't get it to work. When I go through the process a new track is created, but it is empty. If it was a problem with the threshold I would expect to see at least a midi file with no events in it, right?

Drum replacement does not create midi region

I am new to logic and I am trying to use the drum replacement tool. I select the track and click drum replacement/doubling. A new track is created, but it is empty. No midi region containing trigger notes is created as I see happen in all the tutorials and manuals I have looked at. As I said...
