grounding problems; static sounds in my monitors

Hi there, I'm having some problems with unwanted signals in my monitor speakers. This is my setup as it is now: - ungrounded pc - firewire interface powered by pc - unbalanced audio connection (no balanced options) to powered monitors (grounded I know this doesn't look like a great solution...

    Southern Fried Stoner Garage Punk...

There is so much energy in you kickdrum that it compresses the whole mix (sounds like you have big compressor on the whole mix)... can't you get some energy out of the kick? Put on a high pass at around 80Hz or so... experiment with it. With the nice acoesticpart in the middle it should sound...

    What's limiting YOUR recordings??

1 Artists (good compositions and well played instruments) 2 Instruments (things should sound right before recording) 3 Time (to experiment with setups and time for the artists) 4 Knowlegde (that will be the engineer) 5 Taste (what kind of recording fits the style) 6 Space (suitable acoustics and...

    Defaced!

I wondered what you think of this song: http://home.quicknet.nl/qn/prive/vandiepenbrugge/defaced.mp3 It's a strange song. It's a one rif song (with modulation) What do you think of the mix? I'm not sure about the piano. I made a recording of nice Bosendorfer grand piano, but they're a pain to...

please critique this rough sketch of a song...

Put some slapback delay on the snare man! The bassguitar doesn't provide that raw fundement of you mix, but I see you downtune your guitar... =) Hmm I'm getting a strange urge to watch Pulp Fiction tonight.... cya!

    Hard Rock/Comercial metal song

Nice song! The distortion guitars are the biggest disturbance. Seems like to much high mid,,, did you eq them like that? Maybe a boost around 2k would be more apropiate. The whole mix sounds a bit dull. Try clear up the muddy sound,,, usually to much energy built up in the mix around 500Hz...

    New song concept, popish

I like the dry snare. The song sounds a bit 'carefull',,, maybe bring up the guitars a bit for more of livefeel? And eh, get this girl to do the vocaltrack!

    Southern Fried Stoner Garage Punk...

the whole thing is nasty wet. Can't you bring up the kick and snare? If they are a bit dry then maybe the whole mix will sound a bit more direct... I like the track =)

more than one asiodriver at the same time?

Is it possible to use more than one asiodriver at the same time? In cubase I only could switch between them. In my case it's about the Esi quatafire610 and a pod with usb(also with asio driver). I would like them both at the same time. I fear the worst, please tell me otherwise =)

    ESI/Ego-Sys Firewire Interfaces

I've got one! I've got the 610. my pros and cons: pros: small, firewire, headphone out, 2 midis, ok converters, cheap. cons: HiZ sucks, preamps are a pain to use (to sensitive gain control at the point it gives decent gain). crappy monitormixing in software. So many outputs, but I can make...

    funk song

Nice song and nice mixing. The vocals don't really attract the attention. Maybe a lack of body? For funk I like a bit more round sound on the kick. Don't really know how it would sound with that kit. Maybe A bit more ambient sound of the kick? Good work!

    Some ideas on a pianotrack

A girl was looking for a rhythmic part for a pianosong of hers. She recorded it over here on my oberheim keyboards with a clicktrack. It's not a thight recording, but it gives a good impression of the song. On the first 1 1/2 minute I used fruityloops (tori amos like) and on the second part...

what about using Two Different Overheadmics for drums?

I'm still really fond of recording the kit with one ambient (NT1, take the time and move it about). Mic the kick and snare to bring them a bit upfront in de mix. Sometimes I but the snare a bit out of the centre to make it a bit more stereo. Robert Tait=> I like your stuff...

    A speaker is a microphone

I think it's cool to experiment. At least it will give a unique sound to it. I remember playing radio with my little brother and shooting into a speaker and record that. Those where the days...

    "Silent Song" (Pop Rock)

Enough space in the mix. Maybe a bit tom much highs on the drum overheads. I'm not really fond of your snare. Have you done something to it to make it stereo? it's much to prominent in the mix to my taste. Maybe a bit of kick would be appreciated. I'm not sure if you wanted feedback on the mix...
