    Most Versatile Mic Under $1000

I have eight of them now. I finally got to use them to mic a whole drum kit, bottom and top heads. Crazy, there are no phasing issues, no need for phase reversal. The drums sound so huge I'm beginning to think it's the secret behind John Bonham's drum sound. It's like instant huge. No eq, no...

    Aphex compellor 300 help

Thanks, I will give that a study, but the 320 has a lot more features that are not found on the 300. I wish there was a manual for 300 on the net, but google has let me down.

    Your Best Little Trick...

    1. Having the drummer tune his heads right. There is no mic that can make a badly tuned drum sound tuned. 2. Lately I have been enjoying using one mic as an overhead instead of two. 3. A drum spot i use a lot is about a foot back from the middle of the snare between the bass drum and the high...

Anybody ever see the old CAD e300's around?

I have used the 179 on upright bass, saxes, and bass clarinet. I like the tone it gives my often very bright horns. I can see where as a bass player you would like the "wamth" of it's sound. Plus it's multi pattern so you would get a few more uses out of it. Great mic for under $200.

Most accurate single/double mic preamp over $1000

I am going to make the leap into a high end mic preamp. I want the quietist, cleanest, and least coloured one possible. I really can't go more than $1500. I finally had a chance to use a high end preamp (it was a prototype and not for sale so I can't buy that brand) and i really could hear the...

I am going to buy a HD24, need mixer advice

I clicked that link and i still dont see how its +4 (i am not that smart in terms of electronics). Are you saying that the 24 outs on the a&h are +4? and that i can use this board with the hd 24 as a stand alone with nothing else needed? i know i will have to do some plug/unplugging for the mix...

    md441 clip

I was in the same boat. I froogled it and found it online, but most of the places you had to have it special ordered. You will not find it less than $30, and i would avoid a homemade one. Oh my God, what a great mic! Worth every penny of the $235 I paid for it used!

I am going to buy a HD24, need mixer advice

I looked this item up on their website and its only got 16 faders. How can i run 24 tracks with only 16 faders without bouncing/combining tracks? Does mackie/behringer/yamaha make a 24 track mixer with 24 balanced in/outs that can go the the HD24? My budget is about $1500 for the mixer.

    md 421 or sm 57?

Here is what Steve Albini says about these two mics. (from his website) Shure SM57- Piece of shit dynamic mic some people are inexplicably crazy about, so we bought one. Sounds equivalently good on everything from snare drum to electric guitar. Unfortunately, not a very high standard of...

I am going to buy a HD24, need mixer advice

What i have now is a fostex d-108, and an 8 individual channel alesis mixer. I love the ease of the set up. It's just like using an analogue recorder in it's ease and simplicicty. I was hoping the HD24 would be similer in its ease if I had a board with 24 individual channels. Im not into bells...
