Similar but slightly OT I have a similar prob with my AKAI MG-1214 console. The tape, as you say, eventually grinds to a halt. I think it is the tape, even though originally thought it was the drive part of the deck. Sorry if this didnt help... David : )

Just to clarify- phantom will not harm dynamic mikes provided that they have a transformer in them (I.E any decent mike) however if it is really really cheap then it will possibly fry the capsule. My 0.02 David

Its dynamic. Someone please correct me if im wrong, but does it matter which is which? cos its not being phantom powered or anything so it would just maybe change the phase? -david-

I use the D1 Well my boss uses either the D1 or a 57, i prefer the D1 myself, but yeah. He also uses the D1 on toms.

tapping insert point yep if u tap off at the insert point (or direct out) this is after the preamp but before the channel fader. Hope this helps David ;)

Also check the IRQ settings in use on the computer, it may not be conflicting however a different setting may help solve this problem -david-
