i know djs are the backbone of the movement, but i'm a drummer/bassist/guitarist trying to put together a hip-hop band. i love the roots, j swift, jay dee, etc., and i never miss gin kru when they come to town.
what else should i hear in the way of organic hip-hop?
thanks...
hey, y'all--
i wanna turn a few (dozen) of my instruments and amps into money and space. i'm missing quite a few knobs, or rubber nipples for slider pots, or just that handy decal that tells you if your reverb knob's at 1 or 11.
online searches for "knobs" have turned up furniture handles, or...
hey, all--
i have a white MXR "micro amp" guitar pedal with only a GAIN control. i keep it in my bass case with a cord and headphones, so i can practice anywhere. all it does is jack up the signal--would this work as a decent preamp?
also have a bigass peavey XR 600E powered mixer, with 6...
hey, all--
i used to know this awesome lefty drummer whom i can no longer contact. the man's a brain--he sets up his kit like a right-hander, but with the ride next to his left hand (l to r: ride, hh, snare). the efficiency of motion was great to watch.
he also explained something about mixing...
first of all, i'm no gear snob. i've got a humble $300 aria pro II fretless--it sounds clean, stays in tune, and i have chops. when i see some dork with a $1000 6-string bass onstage, i'm generally reminded of a "$10 haircut on a $2 head."
i still have my first fretless. somebody'd yanked the...
hello, all--
my basic problem is lack of computer knowledge. i have a homemade computer--a good one made by a friend. i have windows 2000, cool edit pro, and creative recorder. i'm struggling to teach myself.
this thing's getting slower and slower, and i need to throw some files out. but i've...
i play guitar, bass, & drums. also have a shitload of effects and synths, but i try to make organic music that sounds like electronically generated stuff. (think of portishead, the roots, etc.).
anyone out there having success with organic hip-hop on a 4-track? i don't know how to use my...
i bought this japanese 60's tempro kit from the starvation army. cheap. real cheap.
i like the pink/purple woodgrain on the wooden snare.
as a gaijin, i don't like reaching over my knees (i'm 6'3) to hit the floor tom. but i like the tubs otherwise.
any comments?
hi, all--
i have 2 radio shack PZMs i bought from some Indiana U. audio-tech guys. they'e obviously older (the mics), but how do i know they're Crowns?
i'm short on money, but not brains or time. can i--with plywood, duct tape, and patience--use PZMs to mic my tubs on a 4trac?
the only...
hello, all--
just joined, and i have scads of questions!
bought an OPCODE STUDIO 64X at starvation army--my first midi controller. my windows 2000 would use it if i had its manual (or a clue--i'm a musician, not a knob-twiddler). manuals i saw online meant buying Stuffit software, or...
