    Stolen!

Did the cops actually let you have your gear back straight away? Too often stolen property is kept as evidence until after the crime has been solved and the perp's tried.

    8-track Ampex 1/4" tape

Where might one find Ampex 1/4" reel to reel recording tape for a Fostex 8-track recorder? Another local musician was asking and I'd like to help him out. I found some 4 track on ebay, but no 8.

    bands wanting too much...

Which is why I have a set up charge of $75 which includes the first two hours each session, then $20 for each additional hour. So if we do 8 hours in one day it's $195, [$75+(6x$20)] but if they do 4 hours each day for two days it's $230 total.[$75+(2x$20)]+[$75+(2x$20)], so even if they only...

    Cheap Drum mics

Thanks guys, I think I just needed to have what I already knew reinforced. Right now I'm using an AKGd112 in the kick, a pair of MXL603s overhead and a Shure SM57 on the snare, I just need three tom mics. I'd prefer Shure Beta56's or Sennheiser e604's, and eventually will have them, but right...

    Cheap Drum mics

like CAD or samson....................are they any good at all? How about the PG56 by Shure? A little more money, but is it better or are you paying for the name? Should I hold out for the e604's? I'm kinda in a hurry for some tom mics and short on cash.

A couple tunes from our latest show

Thank you, I appreciate that. I have a hard time being objective, and even though I may think we sound OK am afraid we may suck out loud. David, thankyou very much. Comments like this mean a lot when they come from a musician as respected as yourself.

A couple tunes from our latest show

Thanks Ed! The middle eastern vibe happens alot with our lead player. He likes to use modes, and one he frequently uses, I think it's phrygian, gives that kinda vibe.

    slump!

Das......Is your problem with lyrics or music? I often find that once the lyrics are written, a melody usually falls out of them and the chords can be created by building the harmonies off the melody. So this is where I'll echo what pouxhawk said.............. try reading a newspaper and find...

What is the harmonic function of............

Thanks for trying to explain things, but I think I'm at to the point where I've learned just enough to realize how little I know and half of what's being tossed at me is going over my head. I started playing with this and I liked it and I have this stupid idea in my head that I need to know not...

What is the harmonic function of............

It turns out to be a neapolitan chord which is a triad based on a diminished supertonic.

What is the harmonic function of............

It's still in Em, just uses an accidental. But thanks for trying.

What is the harmonic function of............

the fmaj7 in the key of em? It's followed by a Gmaj7, so I'm assuming it's a secondary dominant that'll resolve to the III. The closest I can come is that it's a substitute for a Dm9 which would be a v/III, but I'm sure I'm a bit out of whack.

    gain reduction when mastering

I don't think you can use a rule of thumb like that. -6dB may be good for one voice, another may be able to handle -15-20dB. as far as mastering I'm clueless, but I'm sure it'll depend on the track and the producer's ear.
