Thanks for the reply. So, when you buy a cable labelled "instrument cable" it most likely has less capaticance than one labelled "interconnect cable"? And less capaticance is "better" regardless of the application (guitar vs. line-level apps.)?

Yes, there are inserts. I thought an insert was a stereo plug that sent and returned a signal. That doesn't sound like it would work right.
