    Uneven Cable Length

I came across this post in a search I did for something else. I started reading some posts for the heck of it. This reply is great. Informative AND entertaining. :) I get some great information from this BBS I otherwise don't think I'd be able to find.

Is it O.K. to plug and unplug MIDI cables while power is on?

    Thanks everyone.

Is it O.K. to plug and unplug MIDI cables while power is on?

Right on. That's almost better than the scientific. Thanks for the info. What kind of things have you plugged/unplugged into? Keyboards, USB input devices, etc?

What will Phantom power do to a Dynamic mic signal?

    Thanks guys.

What will Phantom power do to a Dynamic mic signal?

My sound interface to my computer has 2 mic inputs but only 1 phantom power switch that turns it on or off for both mic inputs. I wanted to use 1 condensor and 1 dynamic to record simultaneously. The docs say that the phantom power won't hurt the dynamic mic. What will the phantom power do to...

    Line cable and "instrument" cable

Thanks for the reply. So, when you buy a cable labelled "instrument cable" it most likely has less capaticance than one labelled "interconnect cable"? And less capaticance is "better" regardless of the application (guitar vs. line-level apps.)?

    Line cable and "instrument" cable

Cool info, Regebro. I was looking back on this post and noticed I never saw your reply. So, can an instrument cable and line cable be used interchangeably? Or, from reading your reply, it's O.K. to use instrument cable when connecting line level gear, but not as O.K. using a line level cable...

static shock to computer chasis O.K.?

Is a static shock (built up from fricton in low humidiy - like your feed rubbing on the carpet) from your finger to the computer case/chasis O.K.? I know for some of the components (eg. network card, hard drive, soundcard, etc.) the instructions for installation say to touch a ground before...

Any MIDIOX users? Need a default profile or way to reset

The first thing I did with MIDIOX was change the parameters and save the profile. I didn't save the default profile before I did this. So does anyone know how to reset it to it's default settings?

Idea - any reason why I shouldn't do this?

Thanks guys. MadAudio - I just need something for rehearsal. Bassman - I have 2 possible amps to use. One I can't see right now. This one, the Trace Elliot, doesn't have a direct in for just the amp. I'd have to put it into the input and it has an adjustable input. The mixer has...

Idea - any reason why I shouldn't do this?

Because I don't have a powered mixer or a stereo p.a., I was thinking if I could get away with the gear I have. Anyone know of a reason why I shouldn't use this setup, or what to look out for? I was thinking of taking a Behringer mixer and plugging 2 mics and 2 keyboards into it. Then I...

How to have inputs to mixer get recorded also

Ah, I see. I was just reading about that in the manual for one of the Mackie mixers. Thank a bunch, mshilarious. One thing I noticed, there aren't as many inserts as channels. So what is the technique when you don't have an insert?

How to have inputs to mixer get recorded also

Yes, there are inserts. I thought an insert was a stereo plug that sent and returned a signal. That doesn't sound like it would work right.

How to have inputs to mixer get recorded also

I want to be able to have anything plugged into a powered mixer to have it's own channel in a recorder. So what's the technique used? There aren't outputs for each channel on the mixer and I don't want to record the mix since I'll want to try and mix it later. The powered mixer will be used...

What is the purpose of the Eurorack's output behaviour?

This is getting more confusing than ever. I don't know what you mean by setting my level to the computer independently of the monitor volume. Anything I'm sending to the computer is through my soundcard inputs. The output from the computer is an analog output, not a digital output, and goes...
