Addictive Drums in Logic Pro 8

It's definitely possible. Logic changed the internal routing scheme in version 8, and some plugins had to be updated. Addictive Drums was one of them. So you need the 1.1 update if you don't have it already, and then you might need the PDF they offer...

    Logic Express 7 Problem

Have you reset the audio device in your preferences? Go to Logic Express > Preferences, then click Audio, and click the Devices tab. You should see Built-in Audio there. Choose that, and you should be good. I say all this not knowing how well Logic runs in Rosetta. It might be that it just...

    Drums in the cold

My understanding has always been that drums and other instruments can take a fair bit of cold, but not dramatic changes in temperature. So if you're moving gear around in the cold, and go into someplace warm, leave the gear in the cases for a while to let them warm up, then just open them a...

    Sample: RVD1, SM57, and a pair of 603s

Drum Sample: RVD1, SM57, and a pair of 603s I was hemming and hawing about what kick mic to get to go with the 57 and pair of 603s I had for drum stuff, and finally went with the Red5 RVD1. I couldn't find any recorded examples of the mics I was interested in, so I ended up going with the RVD1...

Avant, Equation, and Superlux… Oh my!

14 mics. Dang! Thanks for pointing that out. It seems like the Equation mics are probably fine, although the problem with any of these kinds of things is that I can't here what the drums sound like to my ears in the room, so I can't tell how much of the sound is due to the drums themselves...

Avant, Equation, and Superlux… Oh my!

Oh well, it was worth asking. I'd still love to know if anyone else has any experience with these things.

    Getting head-

If you play really hard to the point where you break a two-ply Pinstripe head, I'd be a little hesitant to go for the Ambassador, since it's a medium weight single ply head. You could also try an Emperor, which is two ply like a Pinstripe, but without the stuff in the middle. But yeah, I'd...

You're not in the Chicago area by any chance, are you? :)

Avant, Equation, and Superlux… Oh my!

I'm looking for an inexpensive kick drum mic, and while looking at the Full Compass website, I saw this. I've been doing some research for several days now, and this is the first time I've heard of this company. Someone over on gearslutz was asking about these, and there's no responses. It...

    Why side address?

This is all very helpful. Thanks everyone! It's sounding to me like I should just buy one or two of these things. If I pull the trigger, I'll post a comparison of how they sound in a tiny room, which will be O So Informative. :)

    Shure PG52 vs. Beta 52

When you say prototype, I assume you mean that the PG52 is based on the Beta 52. That I could believe, but I don't think the Beta 52 could be considered a prototype in the usual sense of word, having been in production and on the market for years.

    Why side address?

Actually, they are still being made, or at least they can still be bought new. You can get them new from ppsl.com for $40, or direct (it seems) from mcamics.com. Thanks for the responses. I'm still wondering what difference this might make — maybe there's someone here who's tried similar mics...

    Why side address?

This may be a totally silly question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. The short version: is a side-address mic the right choice for vocals, as opposed to a pencil mic? The slightly longer version: I've been thinking about buying an MCA SP1 because they're so cheap and apparently good, for a...

    logic and mac problem

Logic doesn't support VSTs anymore, either, only Audio Units. It does seem a little weird that Logic's manual doesn't tell you where to install third-party stuff, but I guess that's why most plugins you download (and certainly the ones you buy) tell you where they need to be installed.

Phase Reverse in Logic Pro 8

No, you're right. In Logic Pro 8, it's also under Utility. I didn't have Logic in front of me when I answered.

You mean you want to reverse phase on a track? Plugins > Helpers > Gain will do it.

Ooooh, Ima gonna spend some money!

I feel your pain having to do everything by mail order, although it's been years since I had to do that. I don't know where you live, but considering that you'll be spending a good chunk of change on the gear, it might just be worth your while to get to a decent drum shop and try some of these...
