Hi,
sorry I did not respond sooner. I have not been on here for a loooong time. But, I do not mind this if you add it to your portfolio (IF you're still wanting this of course since I'm so late at responding)
Cranky Emu: the multi tracks are definately not from the Telefunken live in the lab...
Hi,
thank you for your mix. Sounds great. Very open and clear. I like that. There's not much wrong with it in my ears.
I wish I had more multirack recordings I could post here. It is great fun to hear how songs can be mixed in very different ways.
Hi.
Thanks for your mix.
I thought this was also a nice mix. Different from the others posted here. In spacing kind of why (I'm just an amateur so forgive if I do not use the right terminology). Your mix is more compact, as if the instruments stand more close together. Maybe you used less...
Hi, sorry for not responding sooner. These are busy times....:-)
I like your mix a lot. Nice spacing and no instrument is too overwhelming. The only little thing I noticed was that the kick drum popped a little on my speakers. As if you boosted some frequencies in the mid-high end.
But in...
Thanks !
Great mix as well. I liked the balance. At first I listened with headphones and I thought that there was a little too much reverb on the lead vocal. But on my monitor speakers it sounded fine.
Thanks !
Hi John,
I think the vocals are much more present. But (and maybe it is a matter of taste) I still think the bass is too overpowering. At first this sounds ok but after some listening it was a little tiring to my ears.
But again, this might be a matter of taste. I just compared it with my own...
Hi easlern,
I don't know why this tambourine was even recorded. The session was done a long time ago.
I think either:
- The bit was recorded afterwards as sort of extra 'percussion hit' to emphasize something (although I cannot imagine what that would be)
- The plan was to dub a tambourine...
Hi, thanks for the compliment. I have added two more threads with a link. So two more songs. One is a slow song (Diggin it) , which is not one of my favourites. I like the groove, but I think we could have added more elements to it to make it more interesting. Also, I hate the saxophone bits in...
Hi mxw,
thanks for sharing your mix ! I can imagine that this is way different than mixing hard core punk. I have never mixed any other music than the music made by the bands I played in. And that tends to be more soul/funk oriented. A friend of mine was into punk a lot back in the days and if...
I think I understand what you mean with guitar timing. The guitar player in the band back then had a natural tendency to play very laid back, whereas the drummer tended to play very in front of the beat. For me (as the sax player), I struggled with both.
Today I again play with the same...
Thanks for your mix !
I really like it. Well balanced in my opinion. Only the backing vocal sounds too upfront in my opinion. Too loud compared to the lead vocal. This is more noticeable in the first chorus than in later on.
But again. Nice mix ! Thanks !
Cheers,
Roel
Hi,
I like the song. And pretty impressive playing. Did you play it with a band or a pre-mixed track without drums on it?
What strikes me the most when listening to the track is that the drums are too dominant. In my opinion there are two reasons for this (note that this is just an opinion, no...
One more question: do you guys mix with headphones? I noticed that since I switched to monitor speakers mixing became much easier. Especially when mixing bass/low end
Hi Keith,
you too thanks for the mix !
It's a nice mix. But here too I have some "criticism" (as far a a newbie mixer like me can give any)
What I like is the presence of the lead vocal, the space in the mix and the effect you added to the keys. Also the kick has a nice nice attack.
I do...
Hi John,
thanks for you mix !
There are somethings I like about it and some that might need some work (in my humble opinion):
In general I think that it sounds a bit boxy, as if there is a pillow in front of my speakers. I agree with Keith that you might want to carve out some freqs so there...
Hi all,
I recently was going to through my backup stuff and I found some raw tracks of a demo recording of a past band of mine. This song was never on the demo and actually never really mixed. I did some mixing of my own on it but I'm, like some of you probably, trying to learn how to do it.
I...
