Just a heads up, the Gurus on the VF16.com board have updated the Quick start guide for Direct Record Mode on the VF16/0. Makes more sense than the manual! (Everything makes more sense than the manual, even war in Iraq).

I'm thinking about buying a Yam. AW1600.
Anybody been up close with one?
I'm probably gonna retire my Fostex VF 160.
(which is why I have posted somethin' similar in the Fostex forum - not really a cross post - I hope!)
Come to think of it: Why isn't there a Yamaha equipment forum on HR.com?

I'm looking at the Yamaha AW 1600. I figure that with its better EQ, effects, dynamics, pre-amps, 24 bit capability, and pitch fix, amongst other things, it's time to trade-in my VF160 for one.
What do y'all think?
Anybody used the AW 1600?

When I start an application (e.g. Pro Tools Cakewalk or MIDIOX) after a few seconds the application stops detecting midi input. I have tried different input devices (keyboard, drum machine) with the same result. The 4x4 is showing an input signal, but the software doesn't seem to detect it...
Just thought you guys might like to know the Fostex.com board has been restored, after an attack by a moronic sh!t called Dr Hack. They're using an upgraded version of mercuryboard so hopefully it won't happen again.
Last postings are from end March, so some stuff is missing.
But could it...
I have received the 2.03 update from Matt at Fostex.
You can find it at:
home.ripway.com/2004-10/186213/Fostex/
There are two files to download:
1. 'VF160MV2' (a zipped folder containing the update)
2. 'update instructions.txt' (basically a copy of Matt's email)
Good luck

I found the upgrade on the website of the UK distributor, SCV London. There is also a manual supplement in pdf format.
The upgrade provides
Audio CD player facilities (playback your masters without taking them out of the VF160)
Song Chain (good for stage use)
Changes to CD audio record use...
