    DR-05 external mic power

Here's what I heard from Tascam support Hello Terry, 48 volt phantom power is not available on the DR-05. It use what is called "plugin-power" which is even less than 16 volts. Stereo mics with an 1/8" inch jack like our older TM-ST2 mic can be used. Regards Brian Tascam support

    DR-05 external mic power

Can anyone tell me if this is enough to power a regular condenser mic such as the AT2035? Would it be better to use an external 48v phantom supply? https://soundcloud.com/tmelvin-950716356

    How Dumb Is This?

So I bought an AT2035 mic a few months ago and just haven't been satisfied with the results. Just discovered today that it has a cardioid polar pattern and I have been singing into the wrong side. Guess it pays to read the specs. https://soundcloud.com/tmelvin-950716356

I'm no expert but everything sounded good to me. Cool song.

    Upgraded gear-any improvement?

I have been using a Tascam DR-05 to record vocals and was told that it was more for field recording than studio recording and was probably the source for my "displaced-sounding" vocals. So I upgraded to an AT2035 mic and Scarlett Solo interface. (purchased used on eBay for $150) Here is my first...

    Bluegrass Gospel Song Using BIAB

Here is my arrangement of an old gospel song. The instrument tracks were created in Band-In-A-Box software. I'm still experimenting with vocal recording and mixing. Thanks to all the knowledgeable folks here on the forum for the feedback and advice...

    Am I Getting Any Better?

I agree about the coldness of digital. Bluegrass should be honest and down-to-earth music from the heart and should be natural. Part of me feels it is sacrilegious to create digital bluegrass, but as a musician (banjo) I could never come close to the professional quality of these tracks. As for...

    Am I Getting Any Better?

Yeah, real tracks are pre-recorded chord progressions by studio musicians. Program users can create their own real tracks as well. I recorded the vocal in stereo with the built-in mics. I'll try it in a different environment next time. Thanks for the input.

    Am I Getting Any Better?

Sorry for the deception. I was curious to see if anyone could tell they were biab tracks. It is my understanding they are royalty free. The real track artists are compensated by pg music. You can check it out at: PG Music Inc. - Band-in-a-Box, RealBand, and more

    Am I Getting Any Better?

Only the vocal is live. The instrument tracks were created using band-in-a-box real tracks. I created the song and arrangement in biab and then import a wav for each track to Audacity for mixing and processing. I then convert to mp3 and send it to my kindle as a backing track. I then recorded...

    My Latest Attempt At Mixing

You are very perceptive and have better hearing than I do. You've nailed exactly the problem I've been having mixing the vocals to blend with the instrumentation. Now it's time for me to come clean. Although I am a bluegrass musician (banjo), the instrument tracks on this recording were...

    My Latest Attempt At Mixing

Robus: Agreed- not the classic bluegrass style. My goal was a sound similar to AKUS. Now if I could just find a female vocalist like Alison Krauss.

    Please evaluate my mix

Thank you all for the feedback. I wanted to make sure the vocals were heard above the instruments but guess I went a little overboard. Looks like I need to fix: Vocals-lower volume and little or no reverb. Instruments-more treble/less bass? BroKen_H, what did you mean by 8-10K air...

    Please evaluate my mix

Mostly interested in how the overall balance of the tracks sound and what improvements can be made. I'm not really a vocalist so not concerned of what you think of my singing other than how it sounds with the other tracks. https://soundcloud.com/tmelvin-950716356/day-by-day-2
