When I started mixing, I gave reverb a lot more weight than what it's actually worth. Most reverbs from the last 5 years can work for pretty much everything if mixed right.

Mixing properly would solve the problem...eq , reverb, and compression , it will take time , so start practicing :)

Headphones cut the low end, so if you, and create an acceptable low-end free environment. Also, a lot of mixes cut the low end, and though I m not an expert in live sound engineering, I would try cutting some low end and adding some mid to the sound

Yeah make you're low end bigger, and make the drums part simpler, maybe play with the drums velocity a bit to create a more realistic sound. Overall, a good singer might help a lot, if you are planning on an instrumental you need to have some kind of a lead instument to lead the track. Oh and...
