    Theres a "3 to 1" ration guideline when it comes to phase. 3x the distance of the sound source to the microphone. Never really put it to the test though.

    Maybe try mic-ing the vocalist like you normally would but try and keep them at a fixed distance from the mic, say 6-8 inches. Put a second mic 3x that distance farther away. Experiment with the angle maybe. Then, use you seocnd vocal track for fx like delay. Let me know what you try.

    44.1 sounds GREAT! Until you A/B with 2 inch tape. Ive never heard 96 A/B'd with 2 inch. Its got to be better than 44.1

    I would try doubling the guitars for beefiness and add the low end with EQ. Crates seem naturally a little tinny to me.

    If your in the buisness of recording then you should just do your best with what you've got talent wise. Unless your producing the band and getting paid for it, there's no reason to get frustrated about how THEY sound. Maybe their 4/4 sounds like a 5/8 every once in a while, but the kik drum is...
