Will Win 8 cause me grief?

You may not find them in the average big box store, but it's not that tough to order systems that still ship with Windows 7 if you really want it.... for example HP just got some recent press for promoting some Win 7 systems.

    audio interfaces on a budget

I installed the M-Audio drivers and didn't notice any difference in latency while playing or recording along with an existing track (no noticeable latency in either case). Interestingly, though, the output levels through the line out / monitor seemed quite a bit louder with the dedicated driver.

    audio interfaces on a budget

The M-Audio M-track is under $100 USD and has separate TRS / XLR plugs plus an insert jack and includes MIDI if you need that. They have released Windows 7 and 8 drivers, but I'm currently using it fine as a plug-n-play with the ASIO4ALL driver so it's pretty generic in terms of support needs...

Audio Interface 1/4" TRS Inputs- Are they stereo?

Thanks for the cable details... and yes, I can now confirm that the keyboard does only have a stereo 1/4" stereo headphones / out jack-- so for that instrument it's all I've got!

Audio Interface 1/4" TRS Inputs- Are they stereo?

I guess what I really meant by "handle" was if I could send a stereo signal on a stereo cable to just one of the TRS input jacks and then have the interface separate left and right and send them to the computer. Based on the replies here, I now know that is not typically possible. Instead...

Audio Interface 1/4" TRS Inputs- Are they stereo?

I'm a total newb shopping for a simple first USB audio interface. I'm focused on the common basic 2-channel ones like Focusrite 2i2, M-Audio M-Track, etc. I think I understand that directly plugging in a guitar or one microphone will provide a one-track mono signal for recording. However, I...

    Inputs/Outputs/Devices/Latency Help?

Thanks.... This is helpful and I think some of the other guides will make more sense now. I noticed that some interfaces (like Tascam) even have regular RCA out plugs, so that might be a way to go to save on buying new cables.

    Inputs/Outputs/Devices/Latency Help?

Yes, it's just a regular old non-digital home theater amp with a bunch of stereo RCA/phono inputs where I can connect things like a CD player, DVD, etc. I use it as my computer speakers by plugging a Radio Shack mini stereo headphone jack-to-RCA converter into the computer output, and then...

    Inputs/Outputs/Devices/Latency Help?

How can anyone actually use these simple guitar to USB cables if the latency is so bad? Use a really fast computer? I've been looking at something like the PreSonus AudioBox USB. I'm a little confused about how you handle the sound output when you have an audio interface like this. I believe...

    Inputs/Outputs/Devices/Latency Help?

Hello All- I'm getting started with recording using Reaper, and thought I would try to play around with just my built in soundcard at first while learning the basics. I installed ASIO4ALL, then I went to the audio device preferences and selected ASIO for my audio system in Reaper. I was able...
