    Recording at a distance.

okay, some details: 1. possible performance types: a. piano recital b. guitar / voice recital c. drums recital/concert. 2. conditions a. normally not a lot of people running on/off a stage. b. only care about my kids performance (i.e. I am not the performance videographer). c...

    Recording at a distance.

I would like to videotape and record my kids recital performances with the best possible quality and the least amount of hassle (in terms of setup). I don't want to look like a crazy person putting microphones near the kids instrument when they perform. Normally the distance away from the...

Recording Studio and All Black Blankets.

Hi - trying to setup a home recording studio in my garage (I have a three car garage, finally cleared out the third spot -- hoping to convert it to a recording studio for my budding artist kids). I have read online that moving blankets make great sound absorbing surfaces. So I would like to...

    Synchronizing Audio & Video

Here's my setup - 1. Mac running audacity. 2. Video camera. 3. Couple of mics feeding a 2i2. What I am trying to accomplish. I want to record my daughter playing some song on her guitar (and singing). And have it high quality. Is there a way to synchronize when the video from the...

where do the guitars plug into?

I plan to record video as well. So just have her mouth the words while the band plays and then have her watch it and sing later - then merge them together in software?

where do the guitars plug into?

I bought a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2. I am going to use Audacity.

where do the guitars plug into?

thanks Casual Poster. What does overdub the vocals mean? Record them independently (i.e. without any instruments) and then mix them in the software?

where do the guitars plug into?

Hi - quick question here. I have an audio interface. One person is playing drums (how do i setup microphones around a drum for optimal recording?), one person is singing, and one person is playing electric guitar. Does the electric guitar plugin into an amp or into the audio interface? Not...

Decent mixer at a decent price.

Hey Dave - how would you compare the NI KA6 vs. Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. Obviously, having two extra inputs would be nice, but not at compromised quality. I read some of the reviews on Amazon and they are saying the Focusrite is a lot better - albeit only 2 inputs.

phantom power just means you don't need an external power source - i.e. you get the power you need from the line, right?

XLR inputs vs. 1/4 inch balanced line inputs... I am looking at some of these audio interfaces that advertise 2 XLR inputs and 2 1/4 inch balanced line inputs. Does that mean I can have 4 microphone inputs - just with different connector types?

Decent mixer at a decent price.

So I guess ideally, I'd have two mics for each person, one for vocals and one for instrument. Because some people may play/sing at a different volume than everyone else. And probably sing and play at different volumes. Once I get this in the computer, i can adjust the levels of each persons...

Decent mixer at a decent price.

If you record each instrument/voice separately, aren't you going to have a nightmare trying to sync the things together. Or to address this, do you have Person 1 record first, then Person 2-4, listens to person 1 while recording him/herself.

Wow, lots of great input from everybody here. Thanks Everyone! I think I'm sold on getting an AI instead of a mixer - since my computer will be my ultimate destination. I guess another thing I'd like to do is videotape the entire thing. So, the output of AI needs to feed a video recorder...

Hi, my name is Phil and I have two kids who play music - which is why I am interested in home recording.

Decent mixer at a decent price.

I am just starting to get into home recording because my two kids play instruments. My daughter plays guitar (acoustic, electric acoustic and electric). My son plays drums. My daughter also sings (takes voice lessons). So, occasionally their friends come over for a "jam session" and there...
