Looking for the guitar that sounds like a les paul without the Gibson Bridge

I'll definitely go with bad technique, on this one. I can palm mute, with no problem/injury, with my Gibson Melody Maker and Gibson Les Paul Faded Double Cut, both having a stop tail piece/TOM combination.

    Strings for Epi ES-175

Depending on what you're looking to play, a hybrid 10/11 set might do good. I've got Ernie Ball Skinny Top/Heavy Bottom strings on my Peavey JF2 EX (semi-hollow electric), and it's quite a bit more lively than what was on it when I bought it. Matt

Strat XII-style neck on acoustic kit?

I guess another option would be to search for a replacement acoustic/electric 12-string that I can deal with, given my handicap. I'm only considering the Strat style neck as a replacement for a guitar kit, if such will work. If I do find another 12-string that I can play, I'll probably sell the...

Strat XII-style neck on acoustic kit?

Long story short, here, my left thumb was crushed at work back in mid-July, except I worked 3 weeks like that, thinking I'd just bruised the bone (based on past experience with bruised bones). Given that, the bone healed in a non-anatomical position, and while I can still deal with playing my...

what's your favorite cheap nice guitar

I had to read back through the whole thread to be sure, but rabiteguy has been the only one to mention Ibanez guitars. As said, they might not compare to to pricier Fenders and Gibsons, but we are talkin' "best bang for the buck" here. My Ibanez collection consists of an Artcore AG75TBS...

what's your favorite cheap nice guitar

Indiana and Johnson are also one's I'd recommend to folks, as far as a cheap guitar. They're cheap enough, and playable enough for anybody just starting out, and with a few mods along the way could make some lasting guitars, unless one really wanted to upgrade to a Fender/Gibson as their skills...

what's your favorite cheap nice guitar

Epiphone Les Paul Jr. 90, and Squier Bullet Special. The LP Jr. has just a bridge P90, one volume and one tone control, wrap around stop/bridge tail piece. The Bullet Special has just a bridge humbucker, and just a volume knob, hard tail Strat bridge. In both cases, I paid $100.00, and I'd...

How much did you pay for your most expensive axe?

Apparently I didn't quite have G.A.S., when I replied 5 years ago, but since then my collection has grown to 23 total, and I've got several partscasters in the works. Currently, my most expensive guitar is my 1996 MIJ Fender VI (a.k.a. Bass VI) that I found for $750.00 used at Sam Ash in...

    Guitar Tone

This may or may not be of any use, but... If you don't mind controlling your volume at the amp, you might try turning your tone control(s) all the way down, and your volume control(s) all the way up on the guitar. Matt

I am a sucky guitarist because:

My latest and best (?) excuse. Back on July 17, I shattered my left thumb (crushing injury, at the intra-phalangeal joint) at work, then ended up working like that for three weeks before I found out, thinking I'd just bruised the bone...as had been the case, for several various orthopedic...

    Gretsch Electromatic guitars?

The Junior Jet II should be a decent guitar, for being a Junior Jet with a neck pickup and a 3-way selector switch. I wish retailers would carry the single pickup Junior Jet; I'd buy one in a heartbeat over the Junior Jet II, but that's just me. Matt

what kind of effect pedal we must have?

If I don't ever buy but one pedal, it'll be a reverb pedal for sure...possibly a stand-alone tank. Matt

    String Gauge on LP?

I wouldn't go over 11s on it...maybe even not over 10s. I put a set of 12s on my Epiphone Les Paul Jr. 90, and now the fretting effort is like playing my acoustic 12-string. Oops. One of these days, I'll get around to dropping the string gauge on that one, otherwise it's good for warming up...

Electric Guitars That Are Good and Cheap (Help)

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Dean-Evo-XM-Electric-Guitar?sku=519795 I tried out a Dean EVO XM at the Guitar Center in Indianapolis, when I was shopping for an el-cheapo electric I could take on trips, and was sufficiently wowed by what I heard from the amplifier. Had I not already...

low-budget electric bass for ignorant guitarist

I don't know if you have an amp, or not, so I'll throw out a couple of links for Musician's Friend pages...the first being my own suggestion. http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-EB3-SG-Bass?sku=518243 I bought one, once the price finally reached its current level. Sure...

Shredders vs. "feel players" - an observation

Once at Guitar Center in Indy, I got to noodling around on a Tele Deluxe plugged into an AC15, and before long my noodling turned into a free-form, stream-of-conscious jam of which I wish there had been some way to record what I was playing at the time. As I was jamming, I did happen to notice...

    New Guitar-2004 Gibson Melody Maker

I never did get around to "building" a baritone...partscaster or modified. Instead, I stumbled upon a used 1996 MIJ Fender VI (Bass VI) at Sam Ash in Indy, when I was looking to buy either a tube amp, or hollow body "rockabilly" guitar. I'd tried out a Gretsch Electromatic (the one with the...

    New Guitar-2004 Gibson Melody Maker

Just like my Melody Maker, except mine is Cinnamon. As to similarities to Fender's Esquire, they pretty much stop with a lack of tone switching, but otherwise the Melody Maker has plenty enough bite with its single, bridge position P90. I'm backing away from my keyboard, as I type this, for...
