Sonar5 automated mute and Tascam FW-1884

I had read in several places that Sonar doesn't support automated mute for control surfaces and haven't been able to trick it into multi-track automated mute, but have been able to get it to work on a one track basis. I was able to use the FW-1884's arrow keys to select the mute of the sonar...

    Sonar5.2/Reason count-in problem

When i turn count-in on in Sonar5.2, the midi tracks that are rewired to Reason don't play. I had count-in set to 2 measures, a loop range, and a punch-in range inside of the loop range. without the count-in everything works. anyone else having this problem? is there some .ini setting i've...

sonar with reason rewire won't stop playing

According to Sonar5-PE, my song is 68:03:00 measures long. However, when I have Reason rewired in, Sonar does not stop at 68:03:00 it just keeps playing. Is this a bug, operator error, or a side-effect of having rewired communication between apps?

sonar and sample plug-ins (dxi, vst) recommendations please!

I've got Sonar5 PE, and I'm starting to seriously consider DXi/VST. can anyone recommend a particular product and also compare it to the internal sample offerings against roland XV and JV sound canvas and Ensoniq ASR-x drum machine? The ones I've been looking at are Reason, Native Instruments...

finally discovered use of "remote" for automation

my digital mixer allows me to do automation, but will only let me change the first "knob" of the fx send. In my case, I put in a Sonitus:fx delay and could only automate the delay time but not the pan. So I finally 'discovered' the remote feature which lets you assign a midi parameter (wheel...

keep the midi? or chuck it?

I've been keeping my midi in the same file and removing it from view via track manager. however, doing so, affects my digital mixer because it still "sees" the tracks. i've been thinking about keeping the original midi in a separate file.

tascam fw1884 confrol surface driver for sonar

For those that need the FW1884 contol surface driver for Sonar, I have placed it on my web site in a zip file. http://www.crosstudio.com/drivers/fw1884.zip I recently upgraded laptops and downloaded the tascam full install only to find that the driver isn't in the web install... luckily, I...

    NAS (not the rapper) drive

Network attached storage. Anyone using it to archive your tracks? I was thinking about getting a relatively small NAS drive and shuffling all of the non-sonar stuff onto it. Then i saw the price of the NAS and started thinking i could put finished tracks there too (i would still continue to...

midi filter for guitar syntch and fx

midi filter for guitar synth and fx So i had this great idea. instead of finding a 2nd keyboard player, i'll midi up my guitar. WORKS GREAT, i even find some pad sounds that give an added essence to my normal guitar sound. for guitar fx, i had an alesis quadraverb velcro strapped to the side...

How to get Sonar5 to work with Tascam FW-1884

For fw-1884 users just go here and install the Sonar Control Surface Driver: http://www.tascam.com/Products/FW1884_downloads.html Then the next time you open Sonar, you'll have the FW-1884 and FE-8 in your control surface list. I've seen a few people advising folk to uninstall/reinstall Sonar...

    Sonar2 to Sonar4 file conversion

i installed sonar4, leaving sonar2 intact. i open one of my existing files.... core dump! so i thought it was sonar4. i uninstalled and reinstalled, updated to the latest patch... core dump! then i attempted creating a new file. recorded some midi tracks, converted them to audio in 88khz...

    Annoying Sonar cut/paste feature

There should be a setting in Sonar so that selecting the END of a time block (F10) selects the end point 1 less than the time specified. If i had a nickel for every time i did a paste and the block i copied gets wiped out, i'd be rich. you click on 5:00:00 and hit F9, you slide over to...

    sonar4 track folders question

once again i am contemplating upgrading to sonar4 from sonar2. at first, it was for 88khz recording, which i've decided isn't a big deal, now its for the track folders. here are my stupid questions: lets say i have 8 tracks of drums that have various panning, volume, eq and compression and i...

    roland gr-33 first beer spill

with the gr-33 being an on-the-floor guitar processor made of plastic, i was a little concerned with what would happen the first time it got dropped. well, it still hasn't gotten dropped, but it did have its first beer spill, and came through ok. maybe it heineken compatible. in the middle of...

Guitar synth... what took me so long

I just got a Roland GR-33 with a GK3 midi interface. I mounted it to my Fender (American) Strat. It took me a few minutes to get the string adjustment right because my low E string was sitting a tad low and had to be raised and adjusted on the bridge, but otherwise i got it mounted fast...

ok... upgrade time sonar 4 (88.2khz) here i come

i didn't upgrade right away because i had no real reason to upgrade. now, i've decided that i'm ready for 88.2khz. the tascam fw-1884 and edirol fa-101 both support 88.2khz as does my mastering software (sekd samplitude master), but sonar2 does not. it only supports 96khz recording. now, i...

    now, i'm convinced... i'm a sh*t head (looping)

i've been working on a tune, and had this new synth line in my head for it. i head down to the bassment to record it. i connect the laptop to the tascam fw-1884 via firewire. the 1884 has my drum maching and sound canvas (xv-3080) connected to its midi output ports. for some reason, the midi...

    midi interpolate instead of compression

i thought i'd posted this before, but i did a search and i hadn't. for those of you that are using Cake with midi, don't forget to interpolate the velocity of the track before you transfer your midi into audio... that way you don't have to reach for the compressor for tracks that were recording...

semi-pro mastering = distortion on the radio

i've co-wrote and produced a single that a couple of college (like WHUR) and public (like WPFW) radio stations are playing in the DC/MD/VA area. i haven't gotten any complaints from the DJ's spinning it, or the people who I know have heard it, but i can hear a certain bit of distortion when its...
