My NR is a radio receiver

Any ideas how I can get rid of the picking up of a local radio station by my Hush 2CX NR unit? It's the ONLY rack unit I have that picks up RF. It's also the only rack unit with a skimpy power cord and a wall wart. Any suggestions?

A bit noisy but very nice. I had one in the early 90's, the Effectron Jr. a cool unit.

    An MP3

No, there's only one mp3 link on my homepage and that's another one from '92. I'm currently working on a very thick sound. No not HEAVY, thick. You have to understand that most of what I do is not intended to be slick, hip or anything else. It's just intended to be what it is.

    An MP3

Okay. Let me try again. Here's an mp3 of a Hollydrift song released in 1992. This was during my minimalist period. Amazingly empty compared to what I'm working on these days www.mp3.com/hollydrift [This message has been edited by Matt (edited 10-24-1999).] [This message has been edited by...

    Censorship rears its ugly head...

I couldn't agree with you more, drstawl. Where in the world did we get the idea we could say anything, anytime, anywhere we wanted and then cry "censorship" the second anyone disagrees? Thanks Dragon, you have a great site!

Dom, Thanks for your help. My quandry is no more! I figured it out all by my lonesome! Thanks.

    Compression, again

Thanks for your quick reply! I understand the function of compression but something's not clicking with me. I'm asking if I need to compress once to bring UP quiet sections and then again at a different threshold level to bing DOWN the peaks. Does that make sense? I'm always being told that a...

    Compression, again

Now let's say I compress an entire mix with 1.5:1 <20db. That brings up quiet sounds. Do I then compress again but this time at 1.5:1 >20db to level off the peaks? It sort of seems lopsided, doing <20db or >20db and not both. Suggestions?

    Welcome Analog Fans!

WOLENSACK! I remember using one of those when I was but a child. They were like a piece of farm machinery. It MADE more noise than it recorded with it's tubes and rattling motors! You could heat a small room with them. What a beautiful start . . . I learned how to make spooky slowed down sounds...

    CEP Compressor Setting

Yeah, I do understand what you're saying. I'm not totally unfamiliar with the concept of if it isn't broken don't fix it. I appreciate your input & help. I guess it's just I'm so new to this (believe it or not this is the FIRST time I've compressed entire mixes!) and the effect is so subtle that...

    CEP Compressor Setting

They sound pretty good. I know where you're going with that question and I understand that if they sound good then I have arrived at an acceptable setting. However, since I'm new to this mastering game, I'm looking for some CEP specific help from others who use CEP96.

    CEP Compressor Setting

I'm mastering my stuff with Cool Edit 96 and I'm looking for a suggested Cool Edit compressor setting for the overall mix. Currently I'm using 2:1>20db. I just want to make sure I'm not over doing it or underdoing it. The Cool Edit Forum has been NO help. Thanks!

    analog quality

As you know, I'm with reco on analog. It's amazing what you can do with a analog 4-track. Personally, I've never liked the sound of music in a digital domain. I have found that tracking with analog and mixing and mastering digital seems to work well. I just hate to see people twisting themselves...
