    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

So I finally got around to making a video showcasing the noise. The video is from my phone, but the audio is what I hear in my headphones. The signal chain is: Guitar -> Zoom G2.1u -> RME Fireface UCX -> Sound Forge The preset on my Zoom is a high gain one. I realize the extra distortion will...

    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

Glad to hear that. At least someone's making progress :thumbs up: I do have on end of the cap soldered to the pot case. That's how my Mockingbird is wired up: The other wiring info I used was from GuitarElectronics.com: 2 Humbuckers/3-Way Toggle Switch/2 Volumes/2 Tones (But there they have...

    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

So, I took the original pickups that came with the guitar and alligator-clipped them to the pots to complete the circuit: It still sounds awful. It makes a lot of noise by itself. When I touch anything grounded, it goes away.

    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

So far as I can tell there isn't. The bridge ground is the black wire at the top, grounded to the top-left pot. That's the only original wire left from the original hardware. Given that fact, it might be tempting to focus on that as the culprit, but I very much doubt it. That same wire was once...

    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

So here is my wiring, mostly redone... The only wiring that's missing are the pickups themselves. But I thought, before I do that. Let me see if I get any noise with just the components so far... I do :(

    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

Yeah, another thing contributing to the mess is the lack of space. The original guitar had smaller, 1/4 inch pots. These are the larger 3/8 inch. The pots I'm using are Dimarzio "custom taper" pots. They're supposed to be 500 k-Ohm ±10% but I had a couple that have been a little out of spec...

    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

Ok, so I got a digital multimeter and checked the pots. It does read zero for everything that needs to be grounded. For my volume pots, I get about 3.4 k-Ohm open (i.e. pot at "10") and about 1.7 k-Ohm "closed" (i.e. pot at "0"). As for added noise, I plugged my guitar directly into my audio...

    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

It doesn't? That's what the green wire coming off the top of the toggle switch and going to the neck-volume pot is supposed to be. Did I get that wrong?

I hope this is clearer. I tried to draw out how I have things wired up.

    Return of: Guitar Wiring Issues

A few years ago I decided to use my cheapest guitar for experiments. I had always wanted to change pickups, tuning heads, etc. I also went a step further and put in all new pots, knobs and toggle switch. I did something wrong. I was getting some really awful noise out of it. I didn't know how to...

Midi Issue in Acid Pro 7

When you say you see the volume meter responding, be careful that it's not the MIDI velocity meter that you're seeing. (My apologies if you already knew the difference. I don't at all want to sound condescending.) Is it the volume meter for the soft synth you're seeing? You can check one of two...

Only the D String Is Off

Oh it wasn't wound versus unwound. It seems to be stainless steel versus nickel. The original pack I bought was a pack of 12 wound, stainless steel D strings.

Only the D String Is Off

So I went out and bought a couple single D strings. I cut off the original one and put the new one on. And that worked. My intonation is fine now. Wondering what on earth happened I looked more closely at the old one and new one. I noticed the old one looked darker than the new one. This set...

Only the D String Is Off

It is similar. I'm very hesitant to cut off the D string and replace it with a new one because I just put on a brand new set, but I may try that option too.

Only the D String Is Off

I did change gauges, but I changed all of them... I would have thought it would have affected all of them. It gets increasingly flat as I go up the fretboard.

Only the D String Is Off

So I just did a run-of-the-mill string change. Now for some reason only my D string's intonation is out. I have a tune-o-matic bridge with a stop bar. Chiefly I've been adjusting the saddle screw, but even at the extreme it won't come into tune. It loses pitch as I go up the fretboard. The way...

    grounding issue

So, as far as I can tell, my connections are all solid. Although, I'm not very good at soldering. Most of my solder joints are cold. They have that dull, matte finish. Would that have an affect on anything?

    grounding issue

I'm having grounding issues as well with one of my guitars. No surprise, it's the one that I did my first (and only) pickup replacement. Actually, I gutted all of the old electronics and replaced them (new pots, caps, etc). I typically play with a lot of distortion, and now there's only about a...
