Drawing 4 Ruzo (nobody else look :=)

Hey Rick, When your favorite bar is closed you have to go hang at your old favorite. I'm going to be away from a computer for two weeks, I don't know how I'm going to handle it. Eric

Drawing 4 Ruzo (nobody else look :=)

I looked too, I couldn't help it. You could also put the same mounting rail and bumper on the front so you could flip it if you want the room to be brighter. Eric

poor mans' bass traps (A/B comparison)

If you are talking about bass traps the plastic covering will have no effect on the mid or low freqencies. Bass traps are usually designed to absorb the lower frequencies in a room. Here are two links to bass trap constructions...

poor mans' bass traps (A/B comparison)

If you want to see how it works, go buy 8 rolls of fiberglass from home depot. (you can return them when you are done with the experiment) Stack them in the corners, see what they do. If you leave them wrapped you won't breath anything. If you have a noticeable positive effect, than it is...

    experience with markertek acoustic foam

You'd be better off buying some rigid fibreglass and covering it with fabric, it's cheaper and does a better job

How do you know if your room sucks?

Do your drums sound like cardboard boxes? This is a typical problem. Do a wideband EQ cut around 300hz and see if it helps. If this helps, THIS IS NOT THE SOLUTION, you probably need some low mid absorption in your room. You can make some membrane traps out of R19 fibreglass insulation with...

How do you know if your room sucks?

The best way that I know of to tell if your room sucks is that your mixes sound very different when you play them on different systems in different rooms. It is possible to mix in a bad room (I did it for years, but thankfully I don't have to do that anymore), you just have to learn the...

    "Quiet Zone"

Hey Steve, Roofing felt has been use as membrane absorber as limp mass and has also been used as bass trap hangers with rockwool attached to either side. The practice was discontinued because of the flammability of the roofing felt. (am I really happy about this being on my roof then?) That...

where do you guys get your 703?

Ethan is selling just 703 in addition to his traps, it is a little more expensive than if you could find it locally, but probably what you would have to pay if you had someone ship it from somewhere else.

where do you guys get your 703?

I just kept on walking into any lumber supply company in my city until I found someone who would order it for me. (notice I said would, not could) I had success at a locally based lumberyard/home center. It took me about a year of looking. Rock wool was easier to find and a little cheaper...

    dead room

By putting carpeting on the floor you will only deaden the high frequencies, your recordings will come out dull and boomy, you need to have balanced absorption all across the entire spectrum. There is nothing you can put on a floor to evenly absorb, so you must put it on the ceiling and walls.

    dead room

No Carpet! The carpet will only absorb high frequencies, also a highly reflective floor will give some life to the sound. You could use vinyl flooring. Eric

Comment on my Studio Plan Please

Krypto, My only concern is the angle of your control room walls. In front they angle away from the mix position, but they start to angle back before the mix position. Because of this angle you will probably get reflections from the speakers directly to the mix position. You also might want...

    703 Alternatives?

Another alternative is Rockwool. Here is a link to a manufacturer http://www.fibrex.on.ca/commercial.html Check out the sound absorption coeficcients. I was able to get this at a local drywall and insulation supplier. Eric

The Size of a comfortable control room

Rochy, What I've been doing is taking masking tape and taping it on my floor, I'll set up a couple of desks, and move around in it and see how I like it. I've dropped two designs because I thought they were too crammed. I suppose you could also do this outside with stakes and string depending...

    rock wool vs fiber glass

Yes. I think that was the shortest response ever, then I messed it up by putting this in .

    Room treatment

I built the standard absorbers that you see all the people here talking about, a box with the rockwool in and burlap covering the face and boxes with peg board on the face to act as a quick and dirty helmholtz resonator to absorb some low mids that were in the room. They were used to do a quick...
