Hye. My 8-track Fostex R8 ins´t working well. Some of the inputs aren´t working at all while the others´ sound, when recording and then playing it back, is crappy for the first 20-30 seconds, after that it sounds good again. What could be the problem? I though I could sell it but have to fix it...

If I´m using wrong kind of tape, a tape that my 8-track is not calibrated to, can it make any harm to my machine (play or record heads or something)? Or is it just that my recordings may sound shit and that´s all. -bubb-
