I thought the lap steel parts sounded real nice. Maybe turn down the other tracks so they don't draw attention from the lap steel. And back off the reverb just a touch. But overall, I thought it sounded real nice. Heard some (probably) unwanted distortion around 1:40 - 1:45.

I think that's true. Many people like to have music playing in the background while they go on about their life - listening passively. And this piece is probably fine for that purpose.

Just commenting on the bass. Yeah the scratchy bass in the first mix didn't work. The bass in the second version was closer. It was real heavy on the low end. To me, the song calls for a little lighter sound. Maybe take away a little of that click on the kick's attack. Just a bit.

The song had a nice charm. The only mix comment I'd have is that the vocal is dryer than the instrument tracks. It's pretty far up front too. At 1:47 it sounds like you moved closer to the mic. Little pop at 2:00.

@K-dub - I think I know what you're saying. The guitar is a doubled part, with the parts already panned 100% L and R. I suppose I could pull some mid-2Ks out of the guitars during the verses and it'd probably clear it up. But honestly, IMO the problem is pretty minor.

I think the limiting is causing some distortion and a bit of pumping in spots. Nice smooth vocals - good performance. I like the level balance. A bit light on the low end - just like I like it. Nice catchy tune.

I thought it sounded good. Levels are well balanced. The song moves well. Nice job.

I'll try... It's something that's overly clean. Recorded in a place with no reflections - and any added reverb is unnaturally bright. Pitch is tuned perfectly on every note. I don't know if sterile is the best word for that. I'm open to alternatives.
