    2011 i5 Mac Mini .25GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 Vs. 2011 iMac 2.5GHz quad as DAW

Yes, they both have firewire. Mini is dual core, iMac is quad. Mini takes up to 8GB of RAM, iMac takes up to 16GB of RAM. iMacs can have much higher internal drive sizes, due to being 3.5"-based. Both have Thunderbolt, which means future peripherals (namely external drives) can be very fast...

    Windows 98 -- Best soundcard ?

Get Windows 2000 Pro, and call it a day. 98SE isn't even supported anymore after October (I think that's the month they call it quits). With the exception of ME, 98 is the worst operating system MS has made...

M-Audio Interfaces: Firewire Solo, MobilePre USB, or Ozone?

Presonus Inspire 1394. Worth $50 more to be rid of USB recording, plus it has 4 simultaneous tracks.

    "Jam Room" mics

No, they'll be a fair distance away, so as to capture to overall sound of the jam.

    "Jam Room" mics

I was thinking of getting a matched set of 603's anyway for acoustic stereo miking. I was afraid the high sound levels would mess up the small diaphragm condensers. I am assuming by your post that this is not the case?

    "Jam Room" mics

Hello, I need two mics, for stereo recording into a laptop, for recording jam sessions. Nothing fancy enough to actually mic everything up individually, but rather something to throw up for some impromptu jamming. I was looking at the M-Audio Microtrack, but then I'm like, why would I do...

An Apple G4 Desktop dual 800mHz for sale... should I?

$700? Good deal. Throw this on: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/PowerLogix/PF47S1700QD/ And you'll be a happy camper. I'd say with the cpu upgrade, it'll handle pretty much anything. without it, you might be freezing tracks a bit, but it'll still work.

definitely two 17"s, or two 19s if possible. I love dual monitors.

    is it strong enough-firepod

Rip off all the crap, set the appearance for performance (system-->advanced-->performance-->adjust for performance) and add a DIMM of 512 or even a gig. As was said, use something efficient, such as Audition or Tracktion. I've had good luck with Tracktion on my 1.33Ghz Celeron w/ 768MB of RAM.

$1,500 to spend on laptop- Help?

Gateway MX3560 w/ Centrino 735, DVD-R/W and 512MB of Ram: $1049 Hitachi 80gig 7200rpm laptop hard drive: $219 = $1268 I've been using a Gateway for 3 years now, without a problem. And it's a helluva lot slower than this one. I am very happy with it. Dells are decent too, at least the...

1616M can be used with a desktop.

yeah, PCI Express in "cardbus" style format is on the way, and it's indeed not backwards compatible. The only stuff worth buying for laptop use right now is firewire stuff, because that'll be around for awhile. Even the 800 stuff is backwards compatible with 400 FW. I don't know what Emu...

Tracktion 2.0 vs. Sonar Home Studio 4/4XL

It's largely personal opinion, I think. Both are quite stable, so it comes down to features and UI. I really like Tracktion, but have considered giving SHS a run too. Unfortunately CW doesn't give trials for SHS, which is disappointing. For the time being, I'll probably just stick with T1.6...

    Budget Soundcard -- Advice Needed

You're better off with the Audio Buddy than the Behringer stuff, IMO. Plus they're now going for $50, unless that was short-lived sale.

here we go again pc build...

PC World did an article about these bargain places. In short if it seems too good to be true, it is. They got Office, XP, Photoshop, and a couple others. One company took their money, never to be seen again, no product. Another sent them cracked versions infested with spyware, all of which...

how do I use m-audio firewire solo with AIM?

Interesting concept! I am afraid that's not going to work though. I think you're going through a similar issue to people that were trying to record a conversation on Skype. The best way would be to use an external device, and pan it left, then your voice right, then they could hear both over...
