    USB DIgital Recording Interface

Help! I want to record up to 8 simultaneous inputs into my computer. I don't need pre-amps, but I would like good quality digitizers. I don't want to spend a lot of money on this, but 24-bit/192kHz recording would be best. I can interface via USB or Firewire. I want them kept as separate...

    Get your wood cone monitors...

The speaker "cones" on my Magnaplanars are mylar and they sound fantastic. Also the speaker cones in my Fender Vibrolux are steel. They are the absolute greatest when my Fender is plugged into them. Really sweet.

8" Montiors in small room ???

8" speaker systems Hey, I love those kind of boxes. I use some 10" boxes in both small and large rooms. Nothing says you have to turn them up really high. They sound great. An 8 x 10' room seems perfect for some nice 8" monitor speakers. This should work ouot greatr.

    Cheap multi-track interfaces

Okay, does anyone make an interface similar to the Maya44 in higher channel numbers? By that I mean, no preamps, no mixer, no effects, no frills, just 16 - 24bit codecs capturing audio and playing back audio from my computer and interfacing it with USB 2.0 or Firewire? I want to select my own...

does anybody know of an app to remove tape hiss?

Cheap and they really perform. I use two methods which work EXTREMELY well on stereo tracks. GoldWave is a waveform editor which does EVERYTHING. Try it. It is amazing. If that won't get it, I also use WaveClean. Both are cheap shareware and work exceptionally well.

    consequences of low tuning?

I snapped a truss rod one time adjusting it myself. I only turned it about 1/4 turn, but it really broke and was then unrepairable. Destroyed my favorite guitar. Now, I don't mess with it, but I agree with everything said above otherwise. I tune my to D or even C occassionally. I prefer...

    Any electronics builders out there

This company is Elliott Sound Productions. He is the URL. http://sound.westhost.com/project66.htm I think their products deserve some serious study. I have modified some of the components, 1% resistors, polypropolene caps, ultra-low-noise op-amp. I haven't fully tested it yet, but I am...

    Any electronics builders out there

I felt like asking again, are there any builders out there? Please share your experiences, tips, tricks, failures (though I hope they're few), etc. I just built the ESP preamplifier and am dying to try it out. I made some modifications that I hope will improve it over the amp it is already...

    de-clicking vinyl

Sorry for the long delay, WaveClean is a standalone shareware application available on most popular shareware sites. I love it.

    Best mic pre for $37.50?

You might look at www.paia.com if you are handy with a soldering iron. I took their RIAA preamp and with some modification made it into a really quiet mike preamp.

    Tubes Valves Toobs

Sorry to burst your bubble, but ANY tube will have a bandwidth significantly greater than the full spectrum audio bandwidth. You can limit the frequency with capacitors, or you can get some fuzz by overdriving it, but the natural bandwidth of even the cheapest types are well above the audio band.

    Tascam 414MKII 4-Track Recorder

I love it. I have two of them, and have produced two CDs that I'm pretty proud of. It is very useful and if you use the DBX, you can get really good recordings. You have to be careful about levels, noise, and all other things like thagt, but if you are careful, it should make very good...

    de-clicking vinyl

I use a piece of shareware called "SINGULATOR", it's great, and really cheap to record the stuff then "WAVECLEAN" to clean it up. The default setting is too much cleaning. It defaults to about 75% but I turn it back to about 15% and it works great. Try it, you'll love it.

    Need Recomendations For Acoustic Bass

I have a Fender BG-32 and love it. I use it for exactly that. Enough volume to use it with two guitar players and the built in electronics work supurb. I got it on ebay for under $300.

    60Hz Hurts!

I use that same setup but I do not have that problem. I have the TB Santa Cruz card and it is NOT prone to hum. What you didn't say though, was where on the radio are you picking up the signal? Are you using a headphone jack, clipping across a speaker, what? What kind of radio is it? I have...

    RF is unbearable

I know what you mean. I have a 50kw transmitter locally. Not that close, but it gets into a lot of my electronics. I find that good grounds help a lot. Be especially careful to make sure you electrical system is up to code. The ground is very important. Another thing you can do if you can...

    SMD vs conventional electronics

I just did a quick cruise of Digi-key and Mouser and both have a pretty good selection of specialty caps. There are polyester, ceramic, specialty electrolytics, dipped silver mica. These are all pretty good types. Not only that, but they have metal film resistors in 0.2% tolerance. I want to...

    SMD vs conventional electronics

Well, you have a very valid concern about tantalum capacitors. They are not of the same audio quality as others. I know you can get aluminum electrolytics for sure, but they are not much better. The best would be polypropolene, polystyrene or polyester film capacitors. I'll have to check and...

What kind of connector is this, and where can i get it/how much?

The connector is called a "Jones" plug. It is a very old-fashioned plug that was very cheap when it was popular. You can buy them through Digi-key or Mouser Electronics, but they might not have the exact one. Depending on what pins are used, it would not be hard to convert it to XLR, but you...
