My latest mix, and first song on this BBS!

I am a newbie at recording, but i know what sounds good. Great mix! Sounds like the Posies to me. The vocals and drums are superb. If you have ever heard "Frosting on the Beater" by the Posies--that is the drum sound exactly. Huge!! I agree that there seems like more could be done with guitar...

    The RNC of mic pres??

Can anyone nominate a mic pre [single or dual channel] that could be considered such. i.e. the all-out bargain--bang for the buck--all-agreed--best under $1000--winner like the RNC [which is really under $200]. Or is the RNC an anomaly. Seems every BBS can agree [to an overwhelming majority]...

    EMP-1

Discontinued I emailed Event a few months back, wondering the same thing. They don't make them anymore, nor have any back supply. I suggest you look in the usual used equipment places for one. I was very interested in one, though have never used it.

    CAD Equitek

Yes, I own one that i bought used about 3 years ago for $200. I have used it exclusively on acoustic guitars and vocals. At the time I was buying i was deciding between the then "hot mic" the Rode NT1, the akg C2000 and the E100. I bought the E100 because I thought it sounded a bit less harsh...

    Tube "Warmth" on spare arrangements???

Here is the scenario: Recording intimate folk/pop/alt.country type stuff at home with BR-8. [read: wilco, del amitri, elliott smith, david gray type stuff] Mostly just layered acoustics [i have nice ones] and vocals [they can be a bit suspect]. I currently use an Art MP, RNC and Equitek E-100...

    Stereo Vocals???

Thanks gnarled and others who responded. I guess the consensus is to double track the vocal parts i want in stereo. and pan, pan, pan. By the way gnarled you have recorded some cool sounding stuff. I am not sure about the Crowded House reference, but i really liked the song. What is your...

    Stereo Vocals???

Here is a question I have been pondering lately: Some artists that I appreciate seem to get a great stereo effect on their vocals in songs. For example, Elliott Smith seems to use a "stereo" or doubling effect to build a song's presence or tension. In the first verse the vocals sound great...

    Audio Technica small condensers???

I have been loitering around for a while and hearing all the worthwhile things [recommendations] people have made about MXL603s and Octava 012 small condensers for acoustic guitar micing. As well as those Berringers for $35. My question is: has anyone ever used the Audio Technica small...
