    Can I Even Sing Well?

Yeah, It sounds kind of silly at first, but I actually use it as a technique from time to time on those tunes that I want to really impact emotionally. In Vino Veritas. Note that you won't have a very big window to capture a good take with this method. Usually about 30-45 minutes in "the groove"...

    Capsules

Thats exactly the info I was looking for. I did go ahead and pick up the cheap capsule and installed it. No issues with the voltage. It actually sounds pretty good. Definitely a different color than my C1. Ultimately that is what I was looking for. Thanks so much for getting me on the right...

Yeah, I definitely picked up on that when I was comparing the Peluso to this one. This being my first attempt at it, the cost difference would certainly take some of the sting away if I break something. I will certainly try to get with Dave on that. Thanks for that info. My big concern now is...

He was extremely helpful even before the sale. I did want a mod from him, perhaps more, I laid out my gear and setup and he steered me away from some and offered suggestions for others. I think some that have him do mods have zero technical skills. (I have performed mods on some pres, built...

kidvybes any info on k47 style capsules? Just curious if you or anyone else has any dealing with this guy RK-47 Microphone Capsule | K47 | Microphone Parts Way cheaper than any other k47 tyle capsule that I have been able to find. The Peluso goes for over 200. The Peluso is a 6 micron and...

Extremely high input levels from drum mics are giving me fits!

Does anyone else have clipping issues with their drum mics? Basically, no matter what preamp / mic combination I try, I have to crank the input gain on the pre all the way down to nothing, and still have issues with some mics. The snare mic is the worst. I've tried a 57 using the digi002...

    AKG Perception 200

I had a AKG 400 tip over on me and land on it's face once. Had to sell it for parts. Dent in the grille - big red flag. Get a Studio Projects C1. It has become one of my favorite vocal mics in the cabinet.

    Replacing VTB1 Opamp?

I saw Alan Hyatt post the same thing on here somewhere. It's really hard to find because he posts so often.

    Studio Projects VTB1 issues

I saw Alan Hyatt post about this somewhere on this board. He said that they had a bad batch of transformers go out the door at one point. He did say that SP would be more than happy to replace them.

    Best Condenser Mic Around $500?

Studio Projects C1 I love this mic. Some mic snobs may scoff due to the price point but I am a believer now. Fantastic for female vocals or a guy with a high range. It has a little bump around 7k but sounds similar to a U87 other than that. There are actually some side by side recording clips...

Looking for a great vocal mic for recording

Studio Projects C1 Don't turn your nose up at this one until you try it. I finally took advice from a producer friend of mine and picked one up. (for around $200-$225 it was worth a look). It is one of my favorite vocal mics in my studio now. It has been reviewed by several people as a pretty...

need help cracking a specific vocal technique

Ha It's cool right? I think I will try flying it around with some sansamp automation and see what comes of it. I do see the ping pong thing that you are talking about now. I think I agree that it is certainly a delay in lieu of a verb that is giving it that far away ambiance. It's just one...

Auto-Tune Question (unsure if this would be wrong forum to post in)

Graph Mode You can use Autotune in graph mode and manipulate it manually. I don't think I have ever used it in auto mode. The best way to get that good vocal track is to do it over and over until you can get it right.

finding it impossible to stay in time when singing and playing guitar at same time...

Being working frontman for 17 years now, I can assure you that this guy is 100% correct. When I perform the only thing I am thinking about is my vocal performance. You should be able to play the guitar part whilst having a conversation about who you did last night with your buddy. If you can't...

My friend swears vocal range is a myth

Range My range was crap at 16. By about age 27 or 28 I found that I could really get up there. I think it comes with understanding your body. I currently have the highest range ever at age 32. I used to just take songs by artists like Soundgarden and work them and learn to hit it without...

    Can I Even Sing Well?

Pure honest opinion A wise producer once told me, "Don't ever ask a question to which you do not want the answer". You have big giant balls for laying yourself out there like this so I commend you. Honestly man, you are in key and in time. You have the fundamentals down. Overall, it sounds...

need help cracking a specific vocal technique

Here is YT link The weird ambient effect comes in and out in the first verse. You can hear it come in on the words "people...read" then again on "anything" again on "sincere" after that a high double comes in that sounds like it is in the same ambient space as the effect as well. I know they...

    vocals terminology...

Sounds like you are describing Deftones vocal sound The main thing that pops out in your description is breaths as loud as the singing. This is compression. If you compress the crap out of a vocal track this is what you will get. Start at 20:1 ratio, a hard knee, threshold at around -30 or so...
