    Overdub a hi-hat

Hey! I recently did a recording session, where it was rather hasty and we realized later we probably should have done a close-mic on the hihat for the song. Would it be crazy to simply overdub a close miked hihat? There's some parts where the hihat is really closed but some washier parts also...

    EXS24 issues

Hey guys! I was hoping someone might be able to help me with an exs24 issues or bug. I have a lot of samples set up as Round Robin groups so that they cycle through three different snare hits. (as per this thread Logic Pro Help ? View topic - EXS24 Alternate Sample-Round Robin Discussion)...

What key is this vocal melody in?

thanks thanks! I can't believe how off I was on the notes I was trying to hit. I really have a hard time being objective when It's my own voice. This gives me a good place to start working on this again.

sweet. Are you going to get someone to sing on top of this? Sounds like Al Green.

What key is this vocal melody in?

thanks! Thanks so much. I thought I was landing on a g#. I see now it goes roughly F#, A, F#, G Any guess on what the notes on the chorus are? This thing is really throwing me. I don't usually have problems this bad but I can't figure out what notes I'm trying to hit. My best guess is F#, G...

What key is this vocal melody in?

Thanks for replying, but what I'm still confused as to what key the vocal melody is in. I know that the cord changes are in the key of Bm for the first, and F#m in the second, but what about the melody? Also it is the same vocal take, do you mean that you prefer the melody against the Bm cords...

What key is this vocal melody in?

Hi guys. Could somebody please help what key this vocal melody is in? I think it is being sung in the key of F#m. When it goes up in the chorus, it lands on the B. The problem is I think the key of the song with the guitar changes is actually Bm. I think I am singing a disguised harmony. But...

Shortening a song after its been mastered

Thanks! I managed to shorten it correctly using Logics' Edit>Add silence and Edit>Snip Between Locators options. I was paranoid it would mess up the automation but everything seems fine. I get very OCD at the end of a long mix. Thanks again!

Shortening a song after its been mastered

Hey This is probably a real boneheaded question but Can I shorten a song in Logic after its been mastered, to get the intro silence and end just right? As long as the output is set to .wav, 16 bit and normalize is set to off, will the resulting audio file be completely unaffected sonically...

The Creature From The Haunted Lake

This is sweet. That is all. Have you listened to La Luz? They do like 60s throwback surf with a lot of vintage organ.

New Wave/Dream style song, looking for advice on mixing and mastering!

Hey. I like it. I like the vocal delivery. I agree they should be "louder", or at least more discernable. I have a feeling this will be a lot of cutting frequencies from other instruments. The song sounds a little harsh on my monitors. Also, using a reverb for a 'room' send might help a lot...

New Order style song 1st mix

Thanks guys! Yes, that bass is definitely too loud at the end. The sort of off kilter beginning is more or less intentional. I hadn't heard Krafty before, I haven't paid any attention to New Orders later stuff, but that is a pretty good one. Makes me think of Pains of Being Pure at Heart for...

New Order style song 1st mix

Hey guys. I have another New Order style song with a first mix on it. I'd appreciate feedback before I totally finish it with automation and everything. I think the vocals may be a tad too loud? Anyway, I'd appreciate any thoughts: https://soundcloud.com/thestammer/firstembrace-001/s-UmOLb...

First Mix Pass Home Recording New Order style song

Thanks! I addressed most of this stuff in the final mix. I will focus on making a brighter snare next time, does that usually mean EQing away some of the lower mids? I used a slight overdrive send on this one with a high setting to add some higher harmonics but I guess it wasn't enough. What...

First Mix Pass Home Recording New Order style song

thanks! Hey Chuck, Thanks, yes I came to the same conclusion with the synth very quickly. I just did a reverb send to get a little bit of it on the left speaker for better blending. I also added just a very very slight, short, realistic "room" reverb send for the drums and some instruments...

First Mix Pass Home Recording New Order style song

Thanks! Yes, I agree about the drums. I am struggling with the low end of the kick, I will try out Logics subBas and see if that adds anything. I will feel OK with this mix as long as the kick is basically audible, however, I screwed up with the mic placement. I will definitely add more verb to...

    Quick metal mix

Hey man. The instruments sound epic. The vocals are not working as well as the instrumentals, however. I think they should be quieter for this style. Maybe they are even too compressed? That's the best 2 cents I can give.

First Mix Pass Home Recording New Order style song

Hey guys. I just did a first pass mix on a song my band recorded ourselves, and I was wondering if anyone would like to give me some feedback. I would really appreciate any advice. Some things that are probably pertinent: Recorded at our practice space. Drums used OTRF and close mic on kick...
