    Pro Tools

This would be a dedicated system, probably Digi 01 or Digi 02. I just need complete compatibility with Mac Pro Tools. (sheesh, I think I just made my decision).

    Pro Tools

Can anyone explain the differences between the Mac and PC versions? I'm looking to buy a system, I'm leaning towards the PC version, but all the studios I use have the Mac version. Is there a reason why? TIA.

    ASR 10 vs E4K

I used to own the EPS 16 + (similar to the asr-10)and went to the emu e6400 ultra. Bad move. The Eos (emu's operating sytem) is so counter intuitive that it will definetly kill any inspiration. You have to create a sound and configure the sequencer to use a metronome. There is no pattern...

    What Is A Sellout?

I think most people use 'sell out' when an artist builds his rep from catering to a specific audience and then starts to cater to the mainstream, basically ignoring 'where he came from'. Sometimes it's very blatent, sometimes it's subtle. Sometimes it's just public perception. It definetely...

Home computer vs. digital recorder (e.g., $399 Boss with mini disks)

I would check out Sonic Foundry's Acid if I were you. You can get a basic version for free, an intermediate version or the Pro version. It is good as a hard disk recorder, but the fun starts after you've recorded everything. I like hardware based sequencers but I use computers for hard disk...

    Truly Great Emcees

With all these "Top 100" lists going around theres alot of dispute about who are the top emcees. It's very subjective, but if we make it "emcees that changed the game" we can probably get a consensus. I'm talking about trendsetters, those that did it first and made an impact. I'm trying to do...

What equipment do you use ???

Mshea You can get decent results with what you have. I do all pro recording in the studio, I don't want to be an engineer and you have to respect the fact that engineering takes technical know how as well as talent. I don't know many people who can match studio recordings in their project studio.

    hip hop producer

I've been doing this for a minute and trust me get a manager. Somebody that has good business sense and can talk sh*t. This is not to dis your skills but you have one huge strike against you; you're emotionally attached to your music. Labels don't want to talk business to an artist, they just...

    hardware vs. software

My point was that they above statement is not the sole purpose for using a studio. It's part of the creative process as well. It's like working at home vs. going to an office. Sure you can do this stuff at home, but you go to the studio and you're surrounded by people who make music for a...

    hardware vs. software

Thanks for the first part of your reply Rev E. But... I create in my home studio; I might even record a demo there, but I record any release in the studio. Sure I mix there too, but I also lay tracks to 2 inch (sounds better than digital IMHO), record vocals, and for the most part finish the...

    hardware vs. software

I've been thinking about getting some soft synths etc.. to compliment my system. What do you guys do when it's time to lay tracks at the studio? Do you make sure the studio has all of your software and bring files or what?

    What should I get first?

It depends how you work. Most people I know making hip hop have an MPC or ASR X, and most of them (people I know) come from a DJ background and they love those machines. I started off DJing, then emceeing, and finally I learned to play the keyboard. So for me I need keys! The Motif has...

    Acid Pro 3.0 & Sound Forge 5.0

If you're use loops then its acid hands down. If you play you might want to look into one of the sequencer/audio programs like sonar or cubase.
