A guitar I built in 1986 has come back to me!

Here is a guitar I built in Dallas Texas in 1986 that recently came back to me. I just finished doing a neck reset, plane and refret, a new ebony bridge, new bone nut and saddle. This guitar sounds amazing.

What acoustic guitar recordings, or records that feature acoustic guitar, have what you consider great world class acoustic tone?

What acoustic guitar recordings, or records that feature acoustic guitar, have what you consider great world class acoustic tone? I’ll start with the acoustic sound on Blind Faith, Rod Stewart’s Every Picture Tells A Story album and, Low Spark Of High Heeled boys. These records were all...

For Sale API 2500 Bus Compressor and API 5500 dual EQ.

I have API 2500 and API 5500 for sale both are in excellent condition with very little use in my private home studio. Like new. I’ll take $5k for the pair….or $2600 each. I can send pics to anyone interested.

Mossman Superlative built by Scott Baxendale.

This is the most expensive and fanciest guitar I ever built. It recently sold in Tokyo for around $70k. I only wish I could have gotten that much for building it. Travis Tritt used this guitar in the video for his first hit song “country club”.

Who still mixes with a console?

I find mixing on a screen with a mouse and the constant going through screens, expanding and contracting while editing, etc exhausting, whereas I find mixing through a mixing console with hardware exhilarating. I’m curious if anyone else has this experience when mixing?

    Any 3340 users out there?

I started recording on a TEAC 3340 in 1973 and used one for years. I have one now that needs some work and I am looking to either get it serviced or get the info I need to service it myself……or sell it? If someone needs one for parts or back up let me know?

Does anyone slice up their vocal tracks and level match each syllable or note?

I saw a tutorial on how to take a vocal track and slice up every point where the wav changes amplitude and level balance the low levels with the high levels. I do this as sort of a manual type of compression. Once I have spent the time doing this step I think my vocals sit in the mix better. I...

    Anybody use ADK microphones?

I have several ADK mics and all of them are great, but I especially love the Z-67 which is their U-67 clone. I also have a Thor which I use on the bass amp, and a small diaphragm condenser I use for acoustic guitar recordings. I’m just curious if any other folks here are using any of these...

High end recording gear vs high end audiophile listening gear.

Every time I go into a high end audiophile store I’m always confused by the juxtaposition between the gear used to record a HiFI record and the ultra high end gear being sold to listen back. So, for example, a music source is recorded through a Neumann U47 into a Neve 1076 preamp with a API 550...

    What defines a great guitar?

To me any guitar that you pick up and as soon as you play it it instantly inspires you to play something you hadn’t previously thought of and then is hard to put down is a great guitar. Price point ultimately has nothing to do with it.

    My weird hybrid recording path.

I track through the board into the apogee symphony 16/16 IO into Protools. Them mix out of Protools through the board and back into the same computer using an Apollo Mk4 into Harrison Mixbus. Both interfaces are on the same thunderbolt, and both DAWs are running on the same computer. The end...

Anyone else using the UAOXBOX for tracking guitars?

This has pretty much changed my life as far as recording electric guitars goes. I’m curious as to who else uses this device and how they like it? https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/OX--universal-audio-ox-reactive-amp-attenuator-with-speaker-modeling
