I have a tascam 414...so which tapes are going to produce the best results for me? Cand I use a cassette demagnitizer?

I bought the new zoom pedal 7*&%$ (some number), with the built in drum machine, and it works fine with batteries, but when it I plug it in with the adaptor it "clips out" and then shuts off on certain patches and not others. Is it the adaptor it is the right voltage (9)? What adaptor should I use?
