i use +6 on ampex 406,407,+6 is hot for that tape, but i found,when i recording bass (use mike),i still can hit the tape at +3 vu,and the sound still good! how you hit tape when recording bass guitar? more over bias is good for bass?

use tape machine is not easy,finally i get the tape compress...:) set 0VU at 250 nWb/m and use AMPEX 407,and some good drum sound if you push more... today i try GP9,set -6VU at 250 nWb/m.but i don't know how to bias it,in the manual TASCAM said:overbias 7db,but i don't know is just for AMPEX...

after align reproduce frequency response with MRL,1khz is 0db,50hz is +2db,100hz is -2db,i think is ok, but when i check record frequency response,record 50hz signal at 0db then reproduce is 5db! i can adjust it to +2db,but it will upset the reproduce frequency response adjustments because...

First i think is because i try a AMPEX 456 from a friend when i buy this machine.i fouud the problem of the sticky tape and stop immediately，and rewind tape,it's very slow.after that i check pinch roll,it's seem ok,i clean it with water.then i buy MRL and run with no problem.and then some NOS...
