    Guitar picks, whaddya use???

Whatever I can find kicking around the house, or in various jeans pockets. I have them everywhere, my favorite place to 100% find one every time, is down the side of the sofa where I tend to sit and play. They all end up knackered anyway:

    Double tracking vocals

Was messing around again last night, would you class this as 'double tracking vocals'? Yeah, the vocals have been done twice, and I've panned one slightly to the left, and t'other slightly to the right. The reason that I'm asking is that I've sung them (poorly) an octave apart. Mainly just...

    Acoustic Guitar

I'm being sucked into the vortex of the Gibson J-45 again. I've wanted one of these for years and years, and everytime I'm down Denmark Street (Tin Pan Alley) in London I go into the guitar shops and start playing them. I've tried vintage, standard, custom and I just love them. This month...

    Double tracking vocals

Holding back, yeah definitely. I'm really embarrassed about singing (even when the Mrs is in the house) so when I did the vocals for that it was early and I was conceous of my neighbours hearing me as they'd not left for work :) One day when the Mrs is out and I know both sides neighbours are...

    Double tracking vocals

Ok you've opened yourself for some ear-drum abuse ! https://soundcloud.com/tim-summers/please-please-please-let-me I do agree that the (bad) vocals do sound a bit fuller - I don't actually know if you can hear the other takes, I've kinda hidden them at 'the back' and if you single...

    Double tracking vocals

Thanks RAMI, DM60 & mjphotos for your replies. It makes a bit more sence now. I'm going to have a bash tonight to do this. I'll also have a look when I get home at the free plugins that you suggested. I'm not short of money, but likewise I havn't spent any on my 'set-up' as I'm only a...

    Double tracking vocals

Interesting thread. I've never thought of double tracking my vocals - probably because I'm not the greatest singer, and I very rarely sing the song exactly the same. I do usually attempt 4 or 5 takes at vocals (straight after one another), then listen to them (alog with the guitar track)...

    Singing while playing vs Tracking

Ahhh so I'm not the only one who does this then !! Get a great raw song with a simple acoustic stumming patter and singing - nice and clean and raw. Then after a few listens I thinks that I'm the worlds best at everything to do with music and I'm convinced that my 2 minute acoustic song is...

How important is the accent for english native speakers?

To be honest it doesn't even cross my mind - unless it's REALLY obvious, like the fake Country songs where they're trying too hard to sing like that as mentioned above, or that god awfull thing going by the name of Nicki Minaj I'm a native Englishman "Toodle pip old bean, jolly good show sir"...

Sorry, another how can I improve thread.

I did do just that, bought myself an Apogee Mic (I already have an Apogee Jam for my electric guitar) - I doubt that it's in the 'great' catagory, but it was the best that my budget (ie the Mrs) would allow me to spend, and even then I didn't tell her the actual price. Still getting used to it...

Can you really tell Asian English accent?

English = Queens English (UK) or English = American English (USA) ?? ;) Personally, being born and raised in England (where no-one actually speaks the 'queens english', that's all storybooks and disney films) then personally I can tell that you 'were not of native toungue'. Not saying that I...

Can you have a listen / read and possibly give me some feedback ?

Morning, I got bored over the weekend, so decided to try my hand at writing a song (tune, chords, and lyrics). This is the first ….. no actually second (but we’ll forget the first) …… time that I’ve tried to do this, usually I just mess around with cover version of songs that I like. I have...

Sorry, another how can I improve thread.

I tried another one yesterday: https://soundcloud.com/tim-summers/big-jet-plane I think that I'm slowly starting moving in the right direction and the breathing is starting to become more 'natural' I'm still using my iPad built in mic on Garageband. Think that if I actually if I invest in a...

Sorry, another how can I improve thread.

I'm currently using 2 main guitars: For most things I'm using an Ibanez Hollowbody AF75. Ibanez.com | Hollow Body Guitars | AF75 It's been my guitar of choice for the past 10 years or so, for a multitude of reasons. I use this, with my Apogee Jam into Garageband on my iPad. My acoustic...

Sorry, another how can I improve thread.

I just thought that I would pop back on here, just to say thanks for the few nuggets of feed-back that I received after my origional post. The 'get your breathing right' was probably the best advise that I've ever received - apart from my Dad when I was about 16 who said to me one night: "You...

Sorry, another how can I improve thread.

Well I tried to breath differently, I honestly didn't know how difficult it was going to be. Basically I had to think about every breath that that I was taking, using the diaphragm and also when to breath etc. I thought that breathing was just breathing - I couldn't have been more wrong lol...
