    Amp Prices... I'm outraged!

It's funny how this thread has morphed into a amp modeller vs. tube amp debate. Like this hasn't been discussed ad nauseum already! :D I think you are right to a certain extent. I think it may take 10 years or longer, but eventually the amp modellers will sound as good as the real thing. I have...

    modes are confusing me

I'm sure this thread cleared it right up for you!! :D Seriously, I can't add much here but I do have a suggestion... Quit worrying about root notes, scales, and modes and just play the freaking notes-- C Major and D Dorian are the same notes! You don't always have to start a solo...

    Amp Prices... I'm outraged!

I got my Budda Superdrive before the price increase. I could probably sell my amp for a profit right now (I never would though... I'll have this amp for life). I LOVE BOUTIQUE AMPS!!!!

Scale to use in hard and alt rock soloing

Metalhead gave you some good info. It seems really confusing with all the scales and modes but it helps to remember they are all related and many are just the same notes with different starting points. For instance, G major, E minor, and A dorian are all the same notes (one sharp: F#). You...

    Strat or Tele?

There is a local band around here with 2 guitarists. They play mostly classic/hard rock kind of stuff. One guitarist plays a Les Paul into a Marshall while the other swtiches between a Strat or Tele into a Carvin Legacy. They sound freaking awesome! The tones blend very well and I haven't...

    Guitar recording secrets. Use wisely.

Thanks for the reply Mixerman! Can you just send me a PM with name of the band and producer?? I can keep a secret!! LOL! Your online stuff convinced me to buy the book. I can't remember the last time I read something that made me laugh that much. I hope you write another one!

    Eliminating Guitar and Amp noise

I'm all about avoiding fixing things in the mix, but I think things like amp noise are practically unavoidable. I've got a Budda Superdrive 30 amp-- not exactly a cheap and crappy amp-- and it's a little hissy with the gain and master volume cranked. For recording, I plug an American Strat and a...

    Eliminating Guitar and Amp noise

I draw volume envelopes to eliminate amp noise. This eliminates any of the problems with gating or artifacts from noise reduction. Also, I don't use linear fade-in and fade-outs either... gotta use a curve so the fades aren't as obvious.

    Chorus...

You can only do this if the vocals are on a separate track from the music. If that's the case, then it's simple copy/paste. If your vocals are already mixed into the same track with the music, you will never be able to separate the vocals from the music and do what you want to do. Hope this...

    Yamaha MG16/4 pre's question...

Hey, I've been doing some A/B comparisons recently that might help you. Actually... I don't know if it will help you because it has just confused me. I setup the comparisons bascially to convince myself one way or the other about buying more preamps to record drums. I've been comparing my DMP3...

Bands are a pain in the...

Stupidity comes from both sides of the recording equation. Especially nowadays when any yahoo with some cracked software and a Behringer mixer is all the sudden a "recording engineer." I had this experience recently with an ex-bandmate. He is one of those guys that thinks he is a world-class...

    Need Expert Opinion On Recording

Yep... quit now. You are about to embark on a very expensive journey. Sure it starts out innocently enough... a cheap preamp here, a cheap mic there. But within two years your credit cards will be maxed and you will still be jonesing for that Neve Portico or Great River. GAS (Gear...

    Double and Triple stop question

If you play that double stop with the root/bass note on the G (8th fret, B string), then both notes would be in the key of Cmin. If you play the same double stop but with the root/bass note on the Bb (11th fret, B string), then the Db you are playing on the E string would be "out of key." That...

    Double and Triple stop question

I've never heard of a triple stop... isn't that just a triad? And a double stop would only be played on two strings (unless you are doubling one of the notes?). But, if I understand your question correctly, I think you are asking about inversions. This might help... here are three different...

    Progression theory question

I used to get real frustrated with this stuff. For instance, when a song was in a major key but had a flat 3rd or 7th. Or when a song was in a minor key but the tonic was played as a major chord or something like that. Stuff that didn't seem to "correct" from a music theory perspective. One of...

    tuning my guitar

I actually think tab is a better system for notating guitar parts than standard sheet music. You certainly shouldn't be ashamed of using tab.

    tuning my guitar

Crunk, when using a tuner, you just pluck the open strings... no need to fret anything. If you are adjusting your intonation, you may want to fret some notes... but for simple tuning, use the open strings. I just nailed you with some neg rep for such a stupid question! (just kidding :D )

    Kick Drum Beater Issues

Yeah thanks... that one I figured out a while back. If you don't put something in there you get that "slapping a basketball" kind of sound... which is definitely not the sound I want! Yes, hole in front head with Beta52 inserted in kick drum. Thanks man. This is definitely the problem... the...
