How do I conquer the dreaded snare ring?

Bingo! Tune your snare and use some moon gel. Also, there's always Drumagog. :D

    Mic Pad

The pad on the mic is for source signals that are too loud for the mic or preamp to handle. For instance, if you were using that mic on a snare drum, you might need to engage the pad. The pad on the pre is probably just because many mics don't have a built-in pad-- so that's a handy feature...

i dont understand the concept of Fender

That's almost half way there. $400 is a good down-payment on Layaway or just a couple months more of saving money and that American Fender is a reality! That's my point. If you have $400 and you are *serious* about playing guitar, $900 is not unreasonable for a GREAT guitar. If you are just a...

i dont understand the concept of Fender

I'm sure prices are much different in Switzerland... so I'm not directing repy this at you. But I hear people bitching about Fender prices all the time and I don't understand it. You can get an American Fender Strat for under $1k. Less than $1k for a legendary, classic, famous, awesome guitar...

    freaking rondo music...

I've got an SX Jazz bass also. It's a decent little bass for the money. I think it plays just fine. My main complaint is the pickups SUCK. I keep planning to replace the pickups but since Bass isn't my main instrument, I've got different priorities. If you just want something to practice/learn...

I Am Actully happy with a amp Modeller

I saw someone mention recently that this is caused by using patches with different speaker cab simulations. Supposedly if you switch back-and-forth between patches with the same speaker cab, you won't get the delay. I haven't tried this yet so don't quote me on it.

DMP3 / RNP inches or miles?

I own both and agree with Harvey. The only A/B tests I've done to compare them have been on a floor tom and kick drum... but I could hear a significant difference. The RNP was fuller, bigger, better sounding. I wouldn't be comfortable saying the difference is in inches or miles... but if I had...

Building 703 panels... (how?) And Treating Small Room

We used iron-on adhesive. I think it was 7/8" wide (maybe 5/8"). I found it in the Fabric department at Wal Mart. The key to making them look nice is wrapping the fabric tightly. My wife had to show to me how to use sewing pins to pin up the fabric nice and snug... lol! I did this to varying...

Building 703 panels... (how?) And Treating Small Room

Well... I have to assume the "looks good" part was a healthy dose of sarcasm... lol! :D Because even I don't think it "looks good" and I was a co-designer/co-builder. But it sounds great. People who know nothing about acoustic treatment, etc. walk into that room and comment on how it "sounds...

Building 703 panels... (how?) And Treating Small Room

Keep in mind that these panels don't need to be framed if you are just making "absorption panels" to hang on the wall. If you are making sealed bass traps... then that's a different story. When we converted my drummer's garage into a studio/rehearsal space, we made about 40 panels. It would've...

    Best attenuator

I wouldn't even worry about playing live. I've never played a club that didn't want to mic my amp and run it through the PA. I'd go out on a limb and say a club that didn't do that is the exception to the rule. I'm sure there are places that don't have a PA or whatever... but if it's a halfway...

    Micing Guitar cabs?

It really depends on the song, man. If it's a fairly heavy song, you may not want any reverb on the guitars. If it's a clean, pretty song, you may want tons of reverb (or chorus or tremolo or something else). Also, a couple more tips: 1) Use any mic placement suggestions as starting points...

    Owens Corning Help!

I covered over 30 panels of 2'x4'x2" (8# density) rockwool (Fibrex was the brand I believe) and it was no easier or harder than the 20 or so panels of OC703 I covered. The rigid fiberglass may be *slightly* more rigid than the rockwool... but I wouldn't hestiate to use either one. Especially...

    Stage fright??????????

Jamal and sile2001, nailed it. Experience is the key and just forget about never making a mistake. I used to stress about playing everything perfect but I think it makes you more error-prone. Instead of playing comfortably (like you would when practicing), you get stiff and uptight. Jimmy Page...

    modes are confusing me

Nope. Check out this website: http://www.looknohands.com/chordhouse/guitar/index_rb.html On the right side is a little window called "Scales." Select "C" and the scroll down a little bit until you see "Ionian," "Dorian," etc. Now go through and select each mode and compare the notes. Right...

    modes are confusing me

I've got no dog in this fight, but that was a very informative post. You are definitely right about the "starting on" thing. I don't understand it either. It is just downright silly to think of starting any kind of melody on the same note every time. I'm sure the term "starting on" has stuck...
