    My first album

Great thanks a lot for the feedback guys! I have always understood that "boosting" eq is not the general idea, but am fairly new to self-mastering tracks. This time around I lifted the highs a little bit, however it was in a relatively small band; I don't think I boosted too far up because I...

    My first album

By "more air" do you mean opening up room for the higher frequencies a bit? Or kind of a general boost in the highs?

    My first album

Hey all, Just put out my first real full-length album and I know it's still not quite professional studio quality but I'm looking for some feedback. I have been on and off on this forum for some time but everytime I had checked in with some new tunes a lot of you were real helpful with advice...

Built a home studio desk - my result

Looking real sleek! Is that your interface on the left side? What kind are you using? I can't decide if I want to chuck the ol' Alesis I have for another board or a go with a rackmount firewire unit...

How does this acoustic guitar sound?

I really like your idea of capturing both sides of the guitar. To me, it can make an acoustic guitar sound even more intimate. It sounds less like you are hearing it in a coffeehouse, or out of speakers in an audience, and more like you are sitting right next to the person playing. Because of...

    Am I Crazy?

In response to the snare sound, I like the sound you stuck with. Just sounds more rock n roll compared to a brighter snare sound. A great, catchy mix. Didn't get a chance to listen to the original that you posted up, but I know I also can pick out each vocal and instrument with ease in this...

Song 4 in my Slovenia project - "Can Talk". Thoughts and Criticisms welcomed

Holy eff. Just want to update real quick. I was messing around with the track and spacing it out a bit. Well when I inverted the phase on one track of the acoustic guitar, it was absolutely glorious. The tracks became two clear, separate tracks. I will be uploading a new version of it soon...

Song 4 in my Slovenia project - "Can Talk". Thoughts and Criticisms welcomed

Thanks a lot on the feedback for spacing out the recording. Yeah I had taken the same track and just duplicated it. It's funny I didn't realize that just copying it won't be as much a benefit as rerecording the whole take as a separate track. There would be different timbre, different...

Song 4 in my Slovenia project - "Can Talk". Thoughts and Criticisms welcomed

zero00 thanks for lending your ears. I agree about the sound being opened up; this is something that I really haven't been able to do too successfully. I use Reaper most of the time, and I have tried panning the acoustic guitar to either side (I did so in this track), and EQing each track to...

Song 4 in my Slovenia project - "Can Talk". Thoughts and Criticisms welcomed

Song 4 in my Slovenia project - "Can Talk". Thoughts and Criticisms welcomed I've slowly been working on my techniques through a project over the past year. This latest one is called "Can Talk". Let me know what you all think, and any suggestions on my relative levels... I think my room...

Ways to get equipment to a school with no auditorium sound system

Hey all, I've recently taken up the task of co-advising my high school's tech crew for theatre. The school secretary is handling the stage management side, and I am tackling the live audio end. However, it turns out that our theatre department has absolutely no sound equipment to their name...

New song FROM FLATLAND - Dedicated to explorers of life and new things

The second song in a series I'm writing about Slovenia (to finish eventually :P) called From Flatland. Darn school year is on the horizon and I'm running out of time to get my ideas recorded! http://soundcloud.com/brobront/from-flatland

A New Song! But....I have dynamic range concerns :(

haha yeah the vocals are pretty dry in this one. i've tended to put my vocals pretty far back in the mix alongside the instruments (don't get me wrong, it's something that I've always enjoyed doing and have always thought sounded better than a focus on the vocals) but this time around I was...

i made this when i was drunk

I enjoy it! Pleasant to listen to, and it also made me laugh hardcore :D Don't take it personally of course, the "DEAD HORSES" part just caught me off-guard.

"Stay" an asian vampire story.....really need some thoughts on this one

The song sounds great so far. Will you be adding the male vocals singing alongside the female vocals during the chorus bit? (about 1min 18sec) I think that would allow it to stand out from the rest of the verses well.

A New Song! But....I have dynamic range concerns :(

I'm excited that I've finally finished up a track on my own with some new equipment; the song is called "Valley Song," and it's on my soundcloud account below: Valley Song by brobront on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free I finished up giving this track a rough...

'Lost In Translation' - Mixed in Reaper - Critiques Please!

armistice, thanks for the response. The reverb is present majorly on the drum tracks:on the rumble of the deep kick as well as the delay on the snare sounds. Sadly, both of those effects were the product of my buddy Aaron's keyboard patches. We recorded the drums from his keyboard, however it...

'Lost In Translation' - Mixed in Reaper - Critiques Please!

After tracking nearly half a year ago, I finally got the time to mix and master this song for my friend Aaron. It was my first attempt at mastering, and mostly my first attempt at using careful, active compression on a lot of the instruments. Let me know what you think about it please...

    Help with volume mastering

For the record, I am avoiding any serious advice involving vague repeated instances of "more compression using _____" and "more limiting with ______". For the love of music, other newbs PLEASE do the same thing and just read the first few posts in this thread :P
