    Using one overhead?

You could use the large condenser. The only issue you'll have is that you won't be able to use the overheads to expand the stereo field of the drums in the mix. That can be a big loss if you're looking for a huge drum sound, and will make it harder to separate the drums from other instruments in...

    Which mic would you choose?

Out of those, I have experience with the Studio Projects C1, the Audio Technica AT404, and the Rode NT-1A. Personally I'd go with the AT4040, but as other posters have said, different mics for different applications, situations, voices etc. There's no sure fire way to pick it without testing...

    Recorded a ska/punk band

Work on your technique and get plenty of practice. I've heard decent mixes come from of the cheapest, crappiest equipment available short of buying it from Radio Shack. I'm not saying that your equipment's not to blame in your case. I don't know enough about it. But 99% of the time I see...

    Track Seperation

You can buy mixers that have Firewire built into them. I know Alesis, Mackie (expensive though), and Phonic make them. USB won't do it, being that the vast majority of USB mixers simply send a stereo signal to the PC, and not the separate tracks. That would probably be the cheapest way to go...

    Audix F15 condensers for overheads

Yep, I've used it for acoustic guitar. It's the guitar that's panned left (I'm pretty sure...) in this mix. The other guitar is mic'ed using an AT4040. I don't have the raw files any more, so I can't isolate the track. So this one has processing, mixing, etc. on it...

Yep, F15 was for the cymbals and the track I posted was only the F15 tracks.

    Audix F15 condensers for overheads

Yeah Phonic are great. I've never had a problem with them. So far so good, I guess. I close mic'ed everything on the kit. The entire mic setup was: 2x Audix F15 Overheads 2x Audix F10 Tom Mics (1 for Rack Toms, 1 for Floor Tom) 2x Shure SM57 Snare Mics (1 top, 1 bottom) 1x Audio Technica AT4040...

    Audix F15 condensers for overheads

Just a Phonic Helix 18FW MKII. It's a Firewire mixer with built in preamps, so it's definitely nothing special. They sell for about $400USD. http://www.phonic.com/en/audio-interface/helix-board-18-firewire-mkii.html The F15's went straight into the mixer, and the mixer then plugs straight into...

    Audix F15 condensers for overheads

I own a pair of Audix F15 condensers and have used them in several projects. I love them. They're not expensive, and you can get a pretty decent sound out of them for what you pay. They're obviously not going to compare with the higher range SDC's on the market, but if you're only paying $50 a...

New Recording with Added Kick Mic

It's not when you hit the tom itself. It's when you hit the kick drum. From what I can hear, the rack toms resonate when you hit the kick drum and it gives off a slight ring/overtone. It's not game changer, but you're better off without it there :)

New Recording with Added Kick Mic

Sounds pretty good dude :) A couple of gripes though: 1. Consider close-miking the toms if your mixer has room for it. They're getting lost behind the kick and snare. 2. Re-tune your high rack tom. Every time you hit the kick drum you can hear the overtones coming from it. You could probably...

...Never recorded or mixed heavy/rock/ballad before. Here it is.

Just from a first listen: Hi-hat needs to be turned down Less high end on the vocals More snare, but you may have to take some of the top end off it if you're turning it up. I'd focus mainly on the drum and vocal sounds, really. The rest seems alright. I think the reverb is over-done, but...

    Cubase 4 & Windows Vista?

I'm running a legitimate version of Cubase 4 on Windows Vista x64 and it runs fine. Legitimate Cubase software will work on Windows Vista without any issues.

Hey need help with Metal Song - please review!

Nice mix overall :) My only gripe would be the drums, mainly the toms. They sound a tad too flat and dry for my taste. Try getting some reverb on them. Also I'd say that the kick is lacking on the lower end. Other than that, well done.

    How do these drums sound?

To me it sounds like: - Kick drum has too much reverb. This may sit well in the mix, but not really with the drums by themselves. - Snare is too distant and quiet. Lacking punch. - Toms are way too dominant and are clipping. Those are the three main problems I can see.
