    United Usefull Cakewalk Links...

James, I've been trying this link but it doesn't appear to work. This program seems like just the thing to help cure me of my laziness regarding backing up my projects.

    +/- 3db. question

I prefer to use the fader simply for the reason that I have this strange fear of doing anything to my tracks that can't be undone. If you save after doing a -3db, when you come back you lose the ability to undo the changes to the wave. by using the fader, I can always push it up or down. This...

    Best Sound Card Deal???

Re: Audiophile 2469 The use of effects will be dictated by your software, not the AP 2496. Now, I'm not big into recording MIDI, so there may be a better card for that out there (I wouldn't know), but for recording digital audio, the 2496 is the best peice of gear for the money I have.

    Remote Procedure Call

Here's a way to get around the auto-shutdown/ reboot thing, in case anyone else reads this before getting smacked with this worm (if you haven't been hit yet, make sure you've gotten the patch from windows update). First, hit control alt delete to bring up the task manager. Check processes for...

what kind of CD to use?

Same here. I've got some cheapo CDR's that seem to work great, then start messing up the more times they get played. Sometimes they never do work on some players. My question is, how come I never have a problem when using them for data?

    Cleaning?

To keep my stuff clean I just run the little brush/hose/vacuum attachment thingy over all my gear once a week or so. It gets all the dust from all the little places between keys and faders and knobs and the like.

    Equalizer plug ins

Sonic Timeworks EQ is pretty sweet. You can switch back and forth between the analyzer and the EQ face and make adjustments from either view. It's a DX plugin, so it'll work with any app supporting DX. It's only 6 band, but between that and the high and low cut filters, it's enough for me.

    Remote Procedure Call

Happened to me last night, too. What a bitch. I had to spend what little time I get for recording fixing that stupid crap.

Haha, no shit. I live in Burlington, IA and there is ZERO music scene. Cedar Rapids, eh? How is it up there? I recently got in touch with another musician from CR. Is there a scene up there?

    I think I'm closer

GJ: you're right, I spend a lot more time playing guitar than singing. I consider myself a guitar player before anything else. I only recently started trying to "sing". I guess I exagerated the whole 12 takes thing, because I kind of did the whole thing one verse at a time, so I'd sing the...

BR-8 DIgital noise and Amp recording

I used to record on a BR-8. I loved how powerful it was compared to my old cassete four track. Now I record using SONAR and it makes the BR-8 seem like the old four track, but I still use it. I just don't record on it. I use it as a direct box for guitars. I think it sounds pretty good...

    Help

Well, you could do what I do when things aren't going well. I open the case of my computer and piss directly onto as many crucial components as possible. Just make sure to unplug it first. If this doesn't work, get some needle nosed pliers and pull 6 or 8 capacators and resistors and chips and...
