Getting good kick recording with Shure 52A

Obviously make sure all your cords are good etc etc. Are your levels ok? Try a different mic . Is the drum worth a crap?

Colorful mic - mid range budget??

I would suggest going some where to try out a bunch of mics(guitar center) and then do some hunting on the used market. If you have cash in hand you can find incredible deals with some patience. You can easily find mics that were in the $600-700 range new, for sometimes less than half that used.

    3/4 time...I love it I hate it

I am still struggling to incorporate fills that feel and more importantly sound natural , or flow correctly?! Maybe that means they are not needed? I always lean towards the less is more motto. I want to create fills that are un-noticeable. Rock is soo much easier!

    3/4 time...I love it I hate it

Working on a project that has a couple of songs in 3/4. I love 3/4 and can lock in and find the groove Im looking for, BUT I am struggling to fit a couple of fills in here and there that don't suck and feel natural. Anyone have some tips or songs I could listen to for some inspiration besides...

    Floor tom tuning problem

Moon gel for recording only? I couldn't disagree more!! That is when I would be less likely to use it. It has been the case for me that at live gigs during line check my one of my perfectly tuned drums goes whacko, I don't have time to fuck with it and even though it bugs the shit out of me...

Picked up a Shure KSM27 today for $100.00 plus $25.00 in gas tops. Damn thing could pass as brand new. Thru it up just test it out and it works flawlessly. Anyone out there have anything they prefer this mic on??

Using an interface for the mic pres only.

Id rather be shot in the face than use a mac . Im still using a dell laptop from 08 that Ive never done anything to other than max out the memory and it still runs reaper over 20 tracks w/ effects and has never glitched on me once. Knock on wood! It is time for an upgrade but I just cant...

Using an interface for the mic pres only.

Hmmm, not sure I follow you, I am a drummer ya know! I have a US1800 with 4 line inputs synced up and ready go but I want to use a scarlett 2i2 as the mic pre's, not synced up just passing audio.....no?....yes?...maybe?.. Havent tried it yet.

Using an interface for the mic pres only.

Anyone ever do this? Im guessing it would work just fine using the line outs of a different interface into the line inputs of my regular interface . Am I missing something?

Api 512c or LA610 for overheads?

Start there and don't get married to any sound until you try some other things too. And You might consider finding another area to record your drums.

Api 512c or LA610 for overheads?

I would think the API's would be too colored for OH mics, unless that's what you want. You've got killer gear to work with, looks like to me its all gonna depend on your room now.

    Fat acoustic harmonica sound

I just recorded a harp using an SM7B, sounded good to me . Once you get the sound you want its all in the treatment to get it fine tuned.

How many mics would you use?

Be sure he has new or at least good heads for recording , this will make it much easier to dial things in .

When the red light comes on

You need to make sure you have your patterns down and are comfortable with them. If you just sit down and wing it , without recording you probably do great, but when you sit down hit record then wing it , you suck? That's what has happened to me in the past. Write you part, practice it , tweek...

    SSL console...honestly???

Lets say your recording and you hear something off, and maybe after a while you figure out it was a bad cord, of course you remove the cord right? Duh? Then of course it sounds better. At some point you have to realize that your Mackie is a bad cord. It may look cool but is it helping or...
