Buy a rug , I have an emotional bond with mine, it has had had beer and every kind of shot you could think of spilled on it , cigarette burns from my younger days and has been pissed and shit on by a peek-a-poo, it smells and is ugly as hell, and I will never get rid of it.......EVER!!

Go to guitar center try out mics in your price range THEN search the used market and buy 2 or even 3 with your money.

Trying to match something you hear on a record, especially drums , is almost a complete waste of time, there are just way too many variables. Just make your drums sound as good as possible .
